Hi Sam,
I remember your thread and how sad everything was.
What a very brave decision to make on your BILs part, and so pleased it turned out alright.
Just goes to prove that sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns.I wish them all the best for the future.

Sam,

What a lovely thread to find when I logged on. I remember avidly reading the trials and tribulations your BIL went through, looking for contact with his mother.

I do hope that he can now build some sort of relationship with her, and that she will get to know her granddaughter.

about my brother in law looking for his birth mother, in Aberystwyth
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=852176&px=21

He & my sister parted 2yrs ago, as you all know.Things were not good for a while but he now has a good relationship with their daughter (now 11yrs) and sees her often.

I found out today that he & my neice travelled to Aberystwyth a few weeks ago, the visit was unannounced, and remember he had still yet to meet his mum.
He knocked the door...........nothing
He kept trying, walking away and going back, walking all around the outside of the bungalow, peering through windows, generally making a nuisance of himself.
He laid low a while and the spotted someone through the kitchen window.
He pleaded for them to answer the door........
They did, it was his mother!!! She invited them in and it all went fabulously!
Turns out the bungalow was in a really bad way, she's an alcoholic, she's in a bad way too after a nasty fall a long time ago. My BIL saw past all that and asked her to go live with him, bless him. She refused, as he expected her too, so plans have been made for him to go and help her sort out her home.
I was so thrilled to hear all this today and so many of you followed this story from 2005 that I had to share it with anyone that's interested. His persistance paid off, their chat showed they had so much in common, he cant wait to go back.
Happy ending at last
Sam
