Poor Trudy accidently deleted her thread about Edmund Gillam having a son Albert born c1861 and a son born c1880.
I explained there are 2 Edmund Gillams
. Edmund senior has son Albert Edmund born 1860
Edmund junior has a son Albert born 1880.

Trudy dont give up it will all make sense in the end.

Also it has been explained that families can be living in the same household but considered separate .
This is done by separating houses with // then even if they are in the same house it will have / to separate the family so not transcribed as living together even though they are in the same house. Hope this makes sense.

Remember dont delete this as you or others might want to refer back to it to see what has been found

It does seem odd that Charlotte and Edmund would have two sons called Albert, though.

There's no death registered in Somerset for Albert Edmund Gillam.

The second Albert's with them in 1891, aged 10, and this is presumably his birth:

Charlotte's maiden name was Russell.

Trudy, I don't quite understand why you think Albert was the son of Edmund and Jane?

Have you looked at *all* the censuses?

They were married in 1846, and I've gone through all the censuses from 1851 to 1901 without finding a son Albert with them. Their children shown on the censuses were Walter, John, George, Ruth, Elizabeth, Mary J, Amelia, Frederick, Alice and Frank. Of course, they may also have had other children who were born and died between censuses or didn't live with them.

In 1901, Jane is a widow, living as a separate household, but in the same house, as Albert and family, who are living in the same household as Albert's widowed father Edmund. The double lines on the census separate houses, and the single lines separate households.

The younger Edmund Gillam and Charlotte were married in 1860, and in 1861 they have a 6-month-old son Albert Edmund living with him, who is presumably your Albert.

This is his birth, and you'll need this reference number to order the certificate:

Births Dec 1860
GILLAM Albert Edmund / Yeovil / 5c 494

Order it through the General Register Office - or GRO. It will cost you £7.00. You quote the ref nos and the quarter and the area the birth took place.

Do you have your Albert's birth cert? This would confirm his parents' names.

Jane is living 'alone'

The people next on the listing are Edmund, aged 63, a Widower. and HIS son Albert (40) and daughter in law, Selina, plus their children

There is nothing to suggest that Jane's son is anywhere in the vicinity

Jane was born 1825 in East Coker Married Edmund Gillam born 1824 in East Coker had son Albert in 1861.
Edmund Junr Gillam born 1835 in East Coker married Charlotte born 1837 had a son Albert born 1880. So as you can see it looks confusing, well for it does, somebody else may look at this and make sense of it all.

They lived in a group of cottages and worked on a estate.

Families lived in one room. So it is possible they were living in the same building.

I don`t quite now how to explain this but i will try.
Albert was born in 1861 in Somerset to Edmund and Jane. He married in London and then moved back to Somerset and is on 1901 census with his wife, son and daughter. Where his lived with his uncle Edmund Junr.
Next door his mother lives on her own, her husband Edmund died in 1900.
Hope this makes sense.
