Tracey..sorry..in fact the Church Gresley earlier records no longer exist, so i didn't find anything for you..But I think the 1787 entry is a good bet for his baptism........because i looked for a marriage in 1887 and 1878 in case it was wrongly dated..there asre none!! Curious.

HI Derek

Thank you for looking for me. I have quite a lot of later ancestors baptised in Church Gresley so CG seems a good possibility of finding John Sutton's baptism. I wonder if, as you say that 'marriage' is actually a baptism. John married in 1805 in Burbage, Leics. so could have been bap. in 1787.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hello Tracey..Happy New year to you.
Sorry about the delay..but i did do some work for you before Christmas..which was inconclusive.pending my deferred visit to Matlock..I am now going tomorrow at 12pm..that's Friday.
Here's what i have:
There is a church at Donisthorpe but only sinc 1850..so there are Parish Records for Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe, but the are held at Lichfield in Staffs..and only begin 1850-ish

Church Gresley appears to be the hub of activity..with most of the places you mention being at some time in that Parish. I havetranscriptions of BMD's for Church Gresley..but Sod's Law has decided that only Baptisms after 1812 are treanscribed!! Marriages and Burials do go back further..and I have those.
I had a quick look at Church gresley marriages.they are soemwhat limited but there is an entry for John Sutton 13.08.1787. Funny thing is its completely out of place chronologically and gives no other details.
Could this in fact be birth of the msn you want??? or a partial entry of the marriage of maybe his father?

The Church Gresley full PR's are at Matlock and I'll be basck to you tomorrow night..promise.

And please don't hesitate to give me a kick up the youknowwhere....I aometimes deserve it.

Derek ps Measham and Ashby are Leicester Office

HI Derek

Just reading the last few posts and so know you have been unwell. I hope you are on the mend. I'm not sure therefore if you have seen my request on 20th Dec.or not, or whether you have and can't help or my request is too vague or whether I should say anything at all, lol!

If you have time I would appreciate any help.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Hi Sparkling person!! actually jave been doing a lot of bits and bobs today on your Nightingales.......have loads and loads of them,,but you seem to have most of them already.icluding the school records....and the workhouse ones too.....Looks fairly certaimn that your Ellen was daughter of William and mary rather than Elizabeth........but have found an interesting marriage of William Nightingale and ANN BIRD at Duffield 29.09.1805.and since Duffield is the Parish in which Belper sits......coulod be interesting!!
I'll let you know.

Re: the Hague entries, I have an ancestor named William Hague born 1811 in Bradfield, Derbyshire. His daughter Mary Ann married into the Mundy family from Northants - who are my husbands ancestors. Very small world!

Hi Derek

Thanks for your offer. I'm looking for the baptism of John Sutton c 1786. According to the 1851 and 1861 he was born in Oakthorp or Donisthorpe. I think I've established that there wasn't a church in either place until 1838 so it is suggested that he may have been baptised in Measham, Ashby, Stretton,Church Gresley or Netherseal. Would you have any records for these places please?

Until I go back to Leicester records office I'm not sure if a couple of these places come under Leicestershire.

Thanks
Tracey

Hi Derek

Hope you can help with my problem...

I believe all the following info is from St Mary and All Saints district of Chesterfield, but need any extra details eg witnesses ,to varify my notes.

I have ..
Thomas Morely marries Lois Inman 1 Feb 1776, they have a daughter Elizabeth Morley May 1776, oops, and then Thomas must die..
as I then have Lois Morely marries George Street 1781 and they have at least 6 children..Henry,Hannah,John,Julia,George,Susannah.

I know Elizabeth Morely marries Samuel Winchester in 1794.

Would really appreciate anything you can find on this family..

Look forward to hearing from you..

Cheers.
Karen of Brisbane
