Mary Report 9 Jan 2009 21:17

Hi Again Derek!
Gerald AV Inckle married Mary hardman from Bolsover.
He apparentley was a stonemason on Hardwick Hall at one time.
The earliest I can find Inckles in Derbyshire isCharles1841 Chesterfield married Elizabeth Barlow at Belper.
If you can't find the Inckles can I be cheeky and ask if you can find any Hardman's who were my husband's mother's family
Good Luck !!!!!

No problem Derek, I thought you probably did work full time and I can assure you that I am grateful for any little crumb you can find, however not at he expense of your health so don't worry if you don't have time. They have been elusive for several years a few more wont make any difference.

Margaret.....Joseph Needham(of Flagg) married mary Newton (of Chelmorton) 23.02.1792 at bakewell...........
It would be unusual if Thomas b 1800 was their first child..so I'm off to find some more..........but not tonight!!

Derek Report 8 Jan 2009 23:17

Hello again Magaret..Sage and onion here........
Ok..have found THOMAS NEEDHAM bapt 01.01.1800 Monyash..son of Joseph and Mary ( Jesus needham born 01.01.01. lolol)
I suspect it might be quite simple........Thomas needham was not baptised at Chelmorton..........did you get Chelmorton from the census??.....because Chelmoeton is a Chapelry in the parish pf Bakewell...and anyone born in chelmorton is quite likely to have been baptised in Monyash....all three places are very close together..
Joseph and mary were not married in Monyash..and neither was Joseph born there.......
It would be really good to crack this..cos Needhams have always bugged me.....they are in my family..and a I work for one!!

Later

Hey Margaret........I love the old sage bit..I speak to you now in sonorous tones from the depths of my long white beard and straggly whiskers growing out of my ears..........I haven't looked yet but i can tell you right now that one of your problems is that NEEDHAM is one of the most common names in Derbyshire.
I might enjoy this one!!..can you tell me more about Chelmorton..notice the wise old sage knows how to spell it!!............

I'll have a look and get back to you.

You are the man to ask!

Hi Mary..re INKLE.I have a one off opportunity of access to the Gretton parish records.......so please give me a full list of anything that you hope i might find...if you think we can get back befroe 1769.just ask.and please include when you think Yhe INKLES might have moved to Derbyshire. I have found inkles in Derbyshire..but its s bit pointless looking at them unless you find some link. i did find one possible link on the census returns.
Main thing though..lets get a much as we can from Gretton. I have only one opportunity to search..

All the best

Believe me I am going again as soon as i can fit it in..and the Nightingales wil be my priority.

Hi Derek, judging by all that you got done I am assuming that you didn't have time to search for Nightingales (the human variety)?

Linda..on the other hand I could have made the most fundamental of errors.just found out there is a Roman Catholic Church in Tideswell!..but I do't rememebr seeing any parish Records..thta's another trip to Bakewell!

But why Ralph Bramwell should be baptised catholic then marry and be buried Anglican...God only knows!! and that IS a pun

Hi Derek,

I have sent you a pm....you are brilliant !

Thanks for confirming the info I have up to Ralph...

One thing that is puzzling me is that Ralph and Ellen had a son Hill Bramwell b1823 died 1824 (extracted)....so perhaps a connection with Samuel Bramwell and Ann Hill somewhere. Hill is used as a christian name or middle name in Samuel's family.

Derek Report 6 Jan 2009 22:36

Linda..i'm just continuing to throw stuff at you..in case some of it sticks.
You.and some of your cotatcs have been relying on IGI and latterday Saints.
Even those records ..even though submitted rather than extracted, back up my certainty that your Ralph was not born 25.02.1784 and was not the son of Samuel and Ann..............becasue the ralph who married Ellen Merryl.......the real Ralph!!.was born in 1790/1791..........
The 1784 Ralph died in infancy..........
I can find neither of them at Tideswell..or in any of SIX surrounding Parishes..but there is a ralph Bramwell born c 1790 at Hope....very close to Tideswell.........

What fun this is!!

Derek.

Derek

Derek Report 6 Jan 2009 21:52

Hello again Linda..I thibk i gave you John Bramwell son of ralph and Ellen..bapt 25.12.1826.....i have allthe other Ralph/Ellen children..Ann Ellen etc...........
Sp obviously he existed..live and died in Tideswell.

But he could NOT have been the son of Samuel and Ann.....equally he could not have been baptised in Tideswell..even in 1791.....UNLESS he was batised in a non-comformist register............

I am happy that the children of Samuel and Ann include Roberet..not Ralph............but all your other info is correct..i just think you've got the wrong parents.....

I'll have a look for him in one or two other Local Registers......

Hi linda..if you want to give me your EMail via PM..I'll see if i can send you the Tideswell Parish records. i have had had trouble before because of the size of the files..but I can possibly split thme up and send them to you in bits.
There are types of files..the Wordprocessor files that give Alphapetis records..very useful..cos all your bramwells are together in Chronilogical order.
and the CSV files that are ourely chronological but the later ones give more information..like out of Parish.and occupations.

Derek Report 6 Jan 2009 17:20

Hi Linda..........I think i have unearthed a problem for you..........are you sure that Samuel and Ann were the parents of your Ralph Bramwell?????

Ralph Bramwell son of Samuel and Ann (unbaptised)..died 20.04.1784..I say unbaptised becasue there is no record of his baptism....but if we accept that Robert?Ralph? was born 25.02.1784....of Samuel and Ann....then he was certainly dead two months later.

On the other hand Ralph Bramwell married Ellen Merryl 12.04.1819...He died in balewell union Workhouse 20.10.1861 aged 72..which makes his birth year 1789..which means he was not baptised in Tideswell.

Ellen Bramwell widow of Ralph died Tideswell 24.06.1862 aged 65.

oops!!!!.......Derek

Hi Derek...you are very kind to go to such lengths for me...i really appreciate it.

One of the first tips I learnt from reading the GR boards some four years ago when I joined was not to assume...so I have let myself down there presuming this guy's tree could be accurate! Infact his tree is incomplete as he doesn't have Jesse indexed!! His home page comes up with error so I cannot cannot contact him to find out more!

I find that Ralph was baptised Robert rather strange...am I paranoid... you bet...never mind the surname change!!

I have the 1851 marriage cert of my husband's 2x gt grandparents John Bramwell to Sarah Worsley at Cheadle Parish Church, Cheshire (my home village) and John's father is Ralph Bramwell occup dealer.

I have Ralph and Ellen on the 1841,51,61 census...occup draper then hawker! A possible death for Ralph in Dec qtr 1861. I will order this death cert. Also the possible death cert for Ellen June qtr 1862.

Going through my files I have a possible birth for Samuel Bramwell bap 26/01/1764 Tideswell...parents Ralph Bramwell and Elizabeth unknown. This is on IGI extracted parish records batch no C058012.

I am even more confused now about Robert never mind Ralph/Robert....!!

Many thanks again

Linda
