Hi Derek

Just noticed you have some Belper records, i wonder if you can help with my brick wall.

My great grandfather John Tomlinson was born according to all the records i have in Belper between 1842 and 1844, his death cert says he was 51 years and 7 months in June 1895

I have marriage, death and police career records, but cannot find a birth/baptism or him before the 1861 census, i am beginning to think he was illigitimate and the father George was made up for his marriage

I would appreciate it if you could look at the records you have please

Sylvia

Hello Derek
Happy new year to you.
Hmn not too sure if you can help me with this one, but I'll give it a shot.
Re Holme/ Callow family.
The line I had been following, certainly does not seem to a have been the right one
My Grt Grt Grandad was Richard Holme b 1826, Wigan.
I.m trying to find his parents marriage, and to find his mothers maiden name.
All I have is on his christening info, is his parents were Richard & Ann.
I have endlessly gone through loads of info, and the only one, that I have found is an
Richard b 1776 age 65, Lancashire
Margret b 1781 age 60 "
Richard b 1826 age 15 "
This was in the 1841 cencus.

In your opinion would you think, this could be his parents,
or should I keep searching.

Hi Derek,
Do your records cover Derby itself, if so could you possibly locate a Bruce Faulkner born 1823 in Derby, his Father is one of 3 Thomas's all born in close proximity to each other, so proving to be a difficult one.
Thankyou
Julie

Mary No 2!!...Good morning......i have been unable to find the parents of John and Alice Inkle at this time..but i do have their marriage and their NINE children......I suspect that maybe Alice Day may have been born in gretton..John Inkle may not have been.....I will try and sort it...

JOHN INCKEL married ALICE DAY 24.03.1788

children.......Mary 19.10.1788.....Sarah 18.07.1790...John 22.08.1790(died 08.06.1793).....John10.06.1794..Philip 10.06.1795....William 11.08.1798..Elizabeth 26.01.1801....Josiah 14.11.1803...Thomas 06.01.1807.......

JOHN INKLE senior died 1807/1808..though not in Gretton..and ALICE Inkle (widow) married Thomas CHAPMAN (widower) 17.07.1808.....

Her daughter ELIZABETH INKLE wed ROBERT COLIN COLWELL of gretton...14.09.1820

and THOMAS INKLE son of Alice.wed MARY HOPKIND (Spinster) of Gretton..05.11.1832

I've a feeling the rest of the INKLES of Gretton may be irrelevant..since you say they moved to Derbyshire......but if you PM me with your EMail I'll send the full sheet to you.

If any of this is useful to you.and they link with anyone in Derbyshire..let me know and I'll do the Derbyshire bit for yo.

Best wishes

Derek.

fudge1.........when the Register says "of Church Broughton" or "of this Parish"..it means simply they were living there at the time of the marriage..It does NOT mean they were born there. Which is why my research into the origins of my ggg grandparents has come a juddering halt..they were both "of this parish" (Ashford in the Water) when they married and i have no idea who either of them are,who or where they came from.

Boylestone records:

Richard Gaunt bapt 05.10.1699 son of Thomas and Sarah...

Mow these may be the same family. maybe not..all children of Thos and Sarah (notice the difference?

Elizabeth 02.09.1695
Thomas 15.04.1697
(Richard 1899 fits very nicely in here)
James 09.06.1701
Sarah 25.02.1702
Ellen 04.03.1704
Mary 17.04.1707 (died two weeks later)

The only other Boylestone Baptismas are two illegitimates and:

Samuel 07.08.1808
Ann 29.07.1810 (died 1812)

Children of William and Katherine (William ws a carpenter and died aged 65 in 02.02.1822

Thomas 12.12.1810 son of Robert and Elizabeth

One wedding of note:

Robert Gaunt (a wheelwright) married Mary Challenor 06.04.1660

I include this for your perusal becasue the skills of Carpenter and Wheelwright are very close and might be a family thing

I don't have the Duffield Regs

Hi Derek, that's okay, no worries. Thanks.

Thomas' two sons were William Sturland Waters and Richard John Sturland Waters. So I hope Thomas' parents might be John Waters and Hannah Sturland.

That's why I need some evidences about them.

Cheers, Steven.

Derek Report 17 Jan 2009 22:09

Hi Margaret..I don't mean to confuse you...the parish entry says George FROM Hope.....doesn't mean he was born or baptised there.
I have a long term , and probably insoluble, problem in my own tree...
My GGG Grandparents marriage was in Ashford derbyshire.....both shown as (of Ashford)..this is 1802.....and there is no indication where either of them was born or baptised! So i am knackered!!
