ClayCross area
Hi Chris I know this may sound a bit vague but do you have anything on Jepson family, George Jepson born 6/5/1916 East Tunnel Row clay cross his dad Thomas I think was born 1864 and his dad Issac born 1844, Issac married a lady called percilla and Thomas married Elizabeth Bedford We think Thomas was born around clay cross and Issac in the Heanage area of chesterfield I have then placed in the 1891 cenus 1881 cenus and poss1871 cenus . Any help would be gratefully recieved Thanking you in advance Thanks so much Hazel

Hi Derek :-)

Firstly B I G apologies for the great delay in my reply. It was getting late when I wrote the posting that I forgot to mention I live in Australia and difference in time would delay my reply.

Indeed the family you write about are mine. My research from a few years ago has been used by various branches of the wider family tree out there and added to various Ancestry postings out there in Cyberspace. I am finally making my way back to several of my fathers maternal branches - the Longdens have missing elements and I would be ever so grateful to find there marriage details - Thankyou for looking for me....sounds like you have a number of wonderful resources and great knowledge of the area ;-)

William Longden b:1804-1880 & Sarah Mather b:1806-d:1865 had at least 6 children
James Longden b:1832 [Sheffield Yorkshire]-d:1902
Sarah Longden b:c1835-d:1873 *My Ancestor.
Ellen Longden b:c1838
William Longden b:1841-d:1922
Ann Longden b:1844
Mary Jane Longden b:1850
[*From Sarah down - All Manchester Born].

From IGI FAMILYSEARCH I found the following entry.
Joseph Longden chr: 12th October 1828 in Youlgrave Winster Derbyshire - Parents as William & Sarah - No Maiden name given for Sarah - [Not fully sure it is my William & Sarah though] but it could very well be for a child who died before they went onto Sheffield and then settled in Manchester??

It was the above IGI entry that made me think [if it is them] there marriage may have fallen between the years c1828-1832 when James was born in Sheffield Yorkshire.

What do you think Derek??

Cheers - Steve Campbell.

Hi Steve..interesting one is this!!
I have the full Winster Parish Records...and have found almost all there is to know about WILLIAM LONGDEN baptised Winster 20.03.1804...son of William Longden and ANN BURTON possibly Ann Buxton (1780-1842)

SARAH MATHER was born Chesterfield 14.04.1806 (baptised 25.04.1806) daughte of James mather and Sarah (nee Walker??)
I believe that sarah died in manchester 1865 and William in 1880

Would be handy if you can confirm this.

At this moment I haven't found a marriage for Sarah Mather in any of the three counties: Derbyshire Lancashire or Yorkshire....

Perhaps you can also confirm (or not!!) that William and Sarah had at least SEVEN children..the eldest of which appears to have been born in Sheffield..and the reat at Hulme manchester......

James Longden (if I'm right) was born 1832 in Sheffield, which means Willam could have married Sarah any time up to then.

I'm still looking.......would be intersting to know what you have got if i am to help you further.

Hi Derek :-)

I just caught sight of this post as I had sought help earlier in the day for a seperate query.

But I am not sure if you are able to help me regarding a marriage??

My 3 times Great Grandparents were William Longden & Sarah Mather they moved to Yorkshire for a short time - then moved onto and settled in Manchester. William was from Winster & Sarah was from Chesterfield - no record of there marriage has been located and I was wondering if you may be able to help?? I am guessing they married in Chesterfield being where Sarah was born. William was born in 1804 & Sarah in 1806 - I have put there marriage to have been anywhere between c1828 & 1832. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance - Steve Campbell.

Hello Kathleen..I'm still trying to find an answer for you..will probably need as trip to matlock...but in passing, you mention that you have Tattersalls in Baslow.. i has a look, becasue i do have the full records, and it is interesting that they had all died or moved on by 1800...The last Tattersall to be born in Baslow was actually the son of a George 1792..the last burial was 1800.

Hi Derek

Thank you for replying, I believe George and Mary are the parents of my GGGrandfather Robert b 1822 and married in 1844, on his marriage cert, his Father George is stated as being deceased. I got some info from IGI on George Tattersall and Mary Hutchinson and also George's Father being Robert and his Mother being Elizabeth but have never been able to find Elizabeth's surname or where they married. I've just checked again on the 1841 census and see that Mary Tattersall nee Hutchinson was in fact living in Nottingham so it's highly likely that George died there so you won't be able to check his death. So it just leaves finding the BMD details for Elizabeth if possible.

Many thanks

Kathleen

Hi kathleen........just a couple of possiblities........early days and i'll follow this through.......
I have a GEORGE TATTERSALL born 28.12.1793 Chesterfield son of Robert and Elizabeth.......

and..

GEORGE TATTERSALL married MARY HUTCHINSON 10.07.1821 at Dronfield.

just for your information with no suggestion that they are what you're looking for....

I don't have the Chesterfiled or Dronfield records, but as you may know i do have access to thme on my visits to matlock from time to time.

I can tell you that George did not die at brampton, becasue i do have those records........

I do have the baslow redords........

Hi Derek

Sorry I don't know the exact area, only that it's Chesterfield Reg.district, but have got some Tattersalls born in Brampton, Alfreton, Riddings, Baslow and Dronfield, believe her husband was Robert Tattersall, does this help? Also looking for George Tattersall who probably died between 1829 and 1844, could be Brampton.

Thank you
Kathleen

Oh, that is brilliant Derek. I have this family I have been trying to find for ages. Alan Finlay, born Tannochbrae, brother Angus Cameron, b about 1932. I believe the two men were doctors. Angus Cameron's mother Janet was the daughter of Hamish McLeod of McLeod, born Ayrshire, and they bred Highland cattle and grew raspberries.

I do hope you can find them for me.

Wotch the Scotch.
