Hello Derek,

I have another one for you. To save you looking back I'll do a quick C & P for you.

You confirmed for me that John Hall Bap. 20/04/1760 Married Ellen Kinder Born c 1760. I know they had one son Robert Hall born c 1786.........do you know if there were any siblings ?

Next question.John's father.

I have found two possibilities, well I hope I have.

No 1.........Henry Hall Bap. 20/06/1731 in St Oswald Ashbourne Derbyshire
or
No 2........Henry Hall Birth 1738 in Norton Derbyshire

I will have to go back and check. I think it was No 1 that had a father listed as Henry.as well.

I'll post a quick PS for you. It would be great if you can crack this one for me.

Well, it's me again. Any chance of finding the birth of James Nixon, born c 1773 in Fairfield, Buxton? He also has a daughter Betty or Elizabeth born about 1801 presumably in Fairfield too. They land in Macclesfield in 1841, but are not Born In County. Also any marriage of James Nixon that is appropriate. I imagine that he married twice, perhaps the second time in Macclesfield.

All a bit vague I realise, see what you can do.

He might also have a daughter Hannah born 1797-ish.

Best wishes

Margaret

Hi Derek, it's good of you to offer. I now know that my father's sister married in Buxton and that she had three daughters; their surname is Logan.
Ann Price married ? Logan in 1947
Patricia was born in 1948
Sandra in 1949
and Theresa in 1951
That's as far as I've got and that was with GR help. What I need to know now is the girls' married names, if any, particularly Theresa's.
Many regards,
Sue

Hi Derek, Yes he was blind.........had been for about 25 to 30 years from memory. Didn't stop the old bugger having loads of kids though. Cause of death was, Senile Decay, and Cardiac failure. As his daughter had looked after him, I was just wondering why she got shot of him into the workhouse.............perhaps he just got too much for her.

Joan

Joan Report 30 Sep 2009 14:32

Hello Derek, I did a google on it. Found lots of general info, but no admission records. That's if they had them. Never mind, hey workhouses seem to be a family trait.

Hey, slack period...................not any longer. Got more for you. A sort of addition to help you have previously given me.

You confirmed for me that John Hall Bap. 20/04/1760 Married Ellen Kinder Born c 1760. I know they had one son Robert Hall born c 1786.........do you know if there were any siblings ?

I'll leave you with that Derek, but..............I've more..............never tell a woman you are having a slack period. :-)

Derek Report 30 Sep 2009 14:29

Hi again joan..addition to previous message:......Have found the 1891 Hayfield Census.....there may be a clue to why he was in the Workhouse..he is aqged 69..Retired Cotton Weaver, and is BLIND. living with his unmarried daughter Elizabeth aged 31.
Perhaps he was in the Workhouse becasue he was blind (there were often some kind of hospital facilities in some workhouses)..and perhaps he was discharged to die?? which he did shorlty afterwards......

Hi Joan............no nightmares, just sling anything you like at me.....bit of a slack period at the moment.so can give you plenty of time.
I can tell you he was not in the Workhouse in 1881..the only available Census for Workhouses.

If you Google "Hayfield Union Workhouse", you'll find whats available.
Yhe scroll down menu gives you the 1881 census..and htere is a liitle book on the Hayfield Workhouse which appeasr not to be avaiable right now.

As i always say..if in doubt Google it!! you never know what little jewels you'll find.

Nice to hear from you again.

Derek.

Hello there Derek, one of your worst nightmares is back to haunt you. Part of this, is one of my Josephs wonder if you can help. Here we go........

I have just received the death cert for Joseph Hall.. born 1823 He died in the Hayfield Union Workhouse New Mills on 14/03/1892. The informant was the notorious John Livesley (been reading about him) Now in 1891 Joseph was living with his daughter Elizabeth, so he was not in there for too long. Do you perhaps.........by chance.............if I'm lucky ...... have any records for this workhouse. It would be nice if there was some sort of admission record, as to why folk went in.

I hope you can help.......he hee.......I do have more queries for you, I did say it was gonna be a nightmare. I'll leave you with this one for now.

Cheerio, Joan

I think my aunt Ann(e) Price was married in Buxton in the late 40's early 50's. She was born in Liverpool, went to Chatsworth Street School and her brothers were Jimmy, Johnny and Georgie. Her father's name was John Price. I would love to trace her daughters, one of whom is Theresa. I don't know their surname, sorry.

Hi Chrissie..yes the dates are baptism dates..not birthdates

Elin baptised 08.04.1798 was sadly buried 10.01.1799

and rebekah 12.12.1790 was I think.but not 100% was buried 10.02.1806

You can often save money purchasing records...perhaps "sometimes" rather than "often"

By Googling the place you want a scroll down menu will give you GENUKI..magic word!! might not always be on the first page and maybe not at all.
In which case you Google..for instance "Genuki Loughborough"..thta will give you loads of links to sometimes very valuable and often obcure links to Church records etc.........and sometimes, if you're very lucky , will lead you to someoone who has already transcribed parish records and put the online free of charge.
I'll PM you later about my Derbyshire records.

Hi Derek,

I've no doubt that I'll be buying some then. Can you tell me how I go about getting them. I've only been doing this for 13 months and am totally addicted, I can lose all track of time when I get my laptop out.

I would appreciate any help that you can give me tracing Jemimahs family further back.

Chrissie

Edit Forgot to ask, are the dates for Jemimahs siblings baptism dates?

Derek

Derek Report 21 Sep 2009 18:25

Hi Chris..there are so many Wains and fentums in Youlgreave that i can probably take you back further into jemima's family..not the fentums cos William seems to have come from Derby.......

the discs are priceless..becasue they are tped out in both alphabetical and in chronological order......but many of them don't come forward enough.....like Youlgrave baptismsend 1837, but burials go up to 1900...,and many other have quite short time spans..I think they are worth what you pay for them, but you can get carried away and collect 50 or sixtry of thyem..like i have!!
Expensive!!...but its my hobby and i'm addicted!!

Hi Derek,

You are an absolute STAR and what a fast response. I can now go another generation back and the fact you found her siblings is fantastic. I wasn't sure when William died except that it was between 1841 & 1851. You really are very kind spending your time doing these look ups.

I have thought about buying some discs for Derbys/Leics/Shropshire but wasn't sure just what info the discs hold, perhaps you could advise me.

Thank you again for your help.

A very grateful Chrissie

Derek Report 21 Sep 2009 17:50

Hi Chris...great fun here!!.......what a chase!!

Loads of Waines.and Fentem/Fentems..in Youlgreave.....which is where you're batised if you're born in Stanton(in Peak)

Ok..Jemima WAINE was baptised Youlgreave 29.08.1802

She married WILLIAM FENTAM at Youlgreave22.01.1822 nad her frist son John,as you saud was baptised at Youlgreave 15.12.1822

I have a William Fentum buried Youlgreave 1848 aged 49...with no notes.....if thats your William we need to know what he was doing back in Stanton/Youlgreave!!

The saga is this:.....William Fentam/Fentem/Fentum looks to have been born in Derby around 1800.cos that where he took his family back to by 1841....taking in Birchover on the way where the rest of the children were born. ( don't have the records for Birchover.and my Youlgreave records end 1837)..can check at Matlock when i go.

NOW THEN!! there is no Jemima Fentum to be found in 1851.....

because she is living St. Peter Derby with her five chldren and her grandson John J son of John......listed as!!!!!! JENNIE FENTON.

by 1861 she is back to Jemima lodging in Bakewell..her daughter Jane now aged 19 is with her, and she is working as a laundress.

in 1871.she is back in Derby at No2 carltons yard..with her Grandson John/now 26..where she dies in 1878.

I don't have the Derby records so i can't help with her death date as yet.

You may like to know that her parents wereJOHN WAINE and MARY ROWLAND married Youlgreave 03.11.1789 and she had SIX siblings:
Rebekah 12.12.1790
Jane 06.05.1792
Mary 23.01.1794
Elizabeth Clark 17.05.1796
Elin 08.04.1798
John 16.02.1800

In other words Jemima was the youngest of seven

all the best

Derek

After that it all goes a bit pear-shaped..visting Birchover Derby Bakewell..

Chrissie2394

Chrissie2394 Report 21 Sep 2009 12:21

Hi Derek,

Do your discs cover Stanton? I am looking for the baptism of Jemimah Waine c1800. I know she married William Fentem on 22/1/1822 Youlgreave district. I believe William was also from Derbyshire but as he died before 1851 I'm not sure whereabouts.

The children I've found are John baptised 15/12/1822 (the only baptism I've found), Ann c1826, Eliza c1829, Thomas c1836, Emily c1841 and Jane c1844.

Jemimah died in 1878.

I will be grateful for anything you can find.

Chris
