Thanks Derek, Could you see if the marriage of sidney Davies and Joshua Woodward 1821 is at Matlock, I am interested in Joshua Woodward's parents, I have found out that Sidney had a son Joseph in 1837 in the Derby Workhouse as a single mother and i want to find out if she was actually widowed or just single as this would tell me if Joshua Woodward is the father of Joseph ( my grt grt grandfather).( because Sidney later remarried and that is where we have our surname of Bedford from)
any info you find on this family would be really good, if you don't mind that is.
Many Thanks for the sidney info.

I am looking for a marriage in Duffield 12 Nov 1821 for Sidney Davies (female) and Joshua Woodward, (from the IGI) I would like to know if there is any other info on there such as parents names, residence etc. Also the baptism of Sidney Davies about 1803 in Holbrook again parents names etc.
I hope you don't mind me asking this.
any info would be great.
P.s if you don't have these records would it be worth me going to matlock?
Thanks Jane

I have found a JOHN NEEDHAM..one of 190 convicts transported to Van Diemens Land of 5th April 1839..aboard the "EGYPTIAN"..sentenced to 10 years.
But he was sentyenced at the Central Criminal Court in London.

What evidence have you that he csme from Derbyshire???
ADDITION just after midnight in England!! Is the the John Needham who was given permission to marry MARY MORAN 24th December 1844?

Hi Derek, Yes John Hall did marry Grace Robinson. I am intrested in his children..........Is that OK..........I know you enjoy this delving, but I do feel guilty giving you all this work.

So is the father not Henry? This familt tree delving gets confusing doesn't it ?

Hello Derek

Sorry not to have got back to you sooner about my Tattersalls, I thought I'd thanked you for the Baslow info but must have overlooked it after I printed it off and then missed your next message, sorry.

I would like to find the marriage of Robert Tattersall and Elizabeth? they were the parents of George b 1793 who married Mary Hutchinson also the deaths of any of these people. I think George died between 1829 and 1844 as Mary married again in 1847 to Abel Holmes. I've got George's last child being born in Riddings so maybe that's the area where they were buried.

If you send my any Tattersall info you find in the Chesterfield area I'll wade thru it and see if any are mine.

Many thanks
Regards
Kathleen

Joan..just to complicate things I have now found the brith of JOHN HALL son of HENRY HALL..but no wife!!
Chapel -en le-Frith 20th April 1760..so ignore the previous one.
And you can also ignore henry hall from Norton, because he married Hannah Fox in 1762 at Norton..too late to be father of John 1760

Hi Joan..just a quickie for a start.....I have a John Hall born at HAYFIELD 03.02.1760..which would make your Baptism date right......His mother was Betty..but no father shown.....will delve..!!

Is the Robert Hall you mention (1786) the one who married Grace Robinson??? If so he was Born Chapel-en-le-Frith.....

Joan Report 21 Oct 2009 12:19

Ah........goodie........if I copy and paste, can you see if your new info will cast any light for me.

You confirmed for me that John Hall Bap. 20/04/1760 Married Ellen Kinder Born c 1760. I know they had one son Robert Hall born c 1786.........do you know if there were any siblings ?

Next question.John's father.

I have found two possibilities, well I hope I have.

No 1.........Henry Hall Bap. 20/06/1731 in St Oswald Ashbourne Derbyshire
or
No 2........Henry Hall Birth 1738 in Norton Derbyshire

I will have to go back and check. I think it was No 1 that had a father listed as Henry.as well.

Yes it was No 1

Thanks Derek :-)

Hi kathleen..I think its a case of looking around the various records i have and sending you whatever Tattersalls i find, which is a long process.
Without suggesting that any of these are relevant i offer you the Tattersalls of BASLOW......a name that appears to have moved on after 1800........in the 18th century you are very ucky to get both parents..Here goes...

Baslow Baptisms:- TATTERSALL

Alexander son of George 10.10.1790
Ann d. of Isaac and Jane 15.06.1740
Ann d. of Thomas 27.03.1744
David son of Thomas and mary 01.07.1722
David son of Isaac and Jane 18.04.1756
David son of Thomas 25.05.1773
Elinda dr of Thomas 06.08.1769
Grace dr of Thomas 02.11.1771
Isaac son of Thomas 01.01.1719
Isaac son of isaac and Jane 01.01.1750
Isaac son of David 04.11.1780
John son of George and Alice 26.01.1738
Joseph son of David 06.10.1779
Martha dr of Isaac and Jane 20.09.1747
Martha dr of Thomas 04.08.1771
Mary dr of David 06.10.1779
Robert son of Godfrey 14.06.1595
Robert son of isaac and jane 07.01.1753
Thomas son of isaac and jane 08.11.1741
William son of Thomas 30/09/1769

There are four entries for TATTERSHALL..including :three as children of Thomas.and one .JANE daughterof Thomas and Anne bapt.13.10.1765..and the reason i include that is becasue i believe that Tattersall and Tattershall are the same becasue of the following marriage:

Thomas TATTERSALL married Ann Holmes 19.02.1765 and surely is the father of Jane Tattershall 13'10.1765.and probably many of the others mentioned above.

The only other Marriage at baslow is:

Godfrey married Elizabeth Mosley 04.08.1594

Baslow BURIALS:

Ann 24.12.1815 Aged 88
Ann d. of Thomas and mary 29.05.1732
Ann dr of Isaac 19.06.1740
David son of Thomas 04.08.1774
Grace dr of Thomas 21.02.1775 aged 2
Isaac ...26.07.1786
James son of Isaac and jane 20.01.1757
Jane wife of isaac 23.03.1794
Joseph son of David 19.10.1779
Mary wife of David 24.04.1784
Mary wife of Thomas 21.02.1802
Sarah 04.10.1758

Thomas father of Sarah 14.120.1800
Thomas 04.10.1801
Thomas 05.06.1803
William son of Thomas 04.12.1793 aged 2

That's Baslow.....I'll conmtinue to look around

Hi Derek

Some time ago when I was enquiring about any Tattersalls in the Chesterfield area you said you had found the birth of a son to a George Tattersall (1792) and that the last burial you had found for Tattersalls was 1800, this was in the Baslow area, I asked if you could give me the details, I expect my request has got lost amongst the many that you receive but if you have a minute could you please give me the details.

Thanking you
Regards

Hi Joan and Margaret..if you Google Thomas Livsey, there is an interesting note of Criminal proceedings against him.he came up smelling of roses!....then Google hayfield Workhouse..there is a list of inmates for 1881...

Hi Madmeg.........talking of work houses I have found a little coincidence. Well sort of.

In 1892 one of my Josephs died as you know, in Hayfield Work house. The master was one John Livesley not a very nice man, by all accounts.

In 1877 there was a Thomas Livsey, in Rochdale, creating all sorts of shananicans with the work houses. Not quite the same spelling I know, but made me wonder. Reckon all these workhouse masters were sent to taunt the poor old Halls. Mind you, the buggers have been taunting me since I started tracing my tree. :-)

Hi Derek

As you say, could be a relative, even a son of the same James. I'll think on whether to pursue it.

Incidentally, some of us get together privately as a result of reading this thread - Joan and I have recently been swapping info on the Hayfield Workhouse, which wasn't in Hayfield at all, but at the bottom of the road in New Mills in which I was brought up.

For madmeg.........Margaret..I can't find any Nixons in my Buxton Records. There are so many small places in the area that at one time or another had their own records..one of them is Hope....the best I can do for the moment is someone who might be descended from your James:-

JAMES NIXON aged 48 a widower married ANNIE NORTHAM aged 55 a widow with the maiden name Moynihan. The wedding took place at Hope 16.10.1897
