What is starting to drive me up the wall is the amount of mistranscriptions, not just on the census records but on the quarter-by-quarter BMD indexes where you have to search the pages because the records aren't yet transcribed. And then you click to enlarge the image (because at its default setting of 50% size the text is too small to read) and the image stops downloading itself about a fifth of the way down the page.

I know if you're transcribing for FreeBMD they tell you to type what you see, not what you "think" is there but some of the BMD indexed pages are beyond a joke if you search quarter by quarter.

Kate, the complete bmd index is indexed by ancestry not FreeBMD, Ancestry take the view that the last name on the page is the one to index on. This creates mis-index when there is an additional hand written entry.

That would make sense, Keith. But I'm guessing Ancestry are using the "type what you see" thing for indexing the first and last names of their complete BMD index pages because some of them are a nightmare to search through.

And, as you say, additional notes at the bottom of the page are very confusing.

Jenny,

I see you got the standard reply to any problems on Ancestry.

Been there, done that and got the t-shirt.

They never seem to listen and consider that sometimes the members can be right.
