Can you list the details from the cert?

Margaret...good point the certificate says he was a bricklayer !! and as you say the census says engineers labourer!!!

But the witnesses fit her side of the family on the 1881 census !!

Just looked again ..even her father fits he was a groom on census and on the marriage certificate

Now the address I checked with some help and a bricklayer lives at the addy given by David and Isabellas addy is housekeepers!!

Have you checked if the occupation for David John Peters on the marriage is the same as on the 1901 census when he is an engineers labourer?

My Great Grandparents lived together for 12 years and had 4 children before getting married (not sure why).

My Great Grandmother had been using her "married" name for all those years but gave a different name when she married.

Maybe your relatives just wanted it to look as though they hadn't been living at the same address.

Thanks Chrisa ..may be right then ..

But I,ve now looked at davids father who was deceased in 1902 on marriage certificate ...but can only find a death of a man by that name in 1906 ...

prehaps its a patten !!

Obviously I can't say it definitely is yours but I can tell you My great grandparents were neighbours in 1901, my grandmother was born 1905 at the address her father was living at in 1901. Her parents married in 1907 both giving completely different addresses on marriage cert. I just assumed they had both moved but them realised my grandmother married in 1925 from the same address she was born.

Turns out the addresses they gave for their marriage were His eldest daughters & Her eldest child. So it could be yours did the same.
