I have a wedding certificate for an ancestor and I'm trying to work out the job from what I can read it's a ship????? then the second word is finnisher. I can't read the rest of the ship word though it looks like it might end with ' las '.

Any suggestions of what it might be?

the second half of the word appears to be longer than brass,

the year was 1866

Can you find him in1861/1871?
His occupation will be on census.

I'm having trouble buying more credits at the moment so will check when i have it working

His other jobs include an optitian and nautical instrument traveller.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a scanner, I use an internet cafe for all my research and they don't have one.

William Ellis was married in 1866 in the Parish of St Mary's Spital Square. The address looks like 35 Brick Lane, but I don't know if Brick Lane is in this area.

I'm guessing he would still have been in the same area for census.

I was going to check census myself mut since none of the sites seem to be taking Maestro then I'm kind of stuck since that's all I have.

If anyone can suggest a sight that does take this then I would be greatful.

Name of ancestor, approx date of birth, area of birth, area living at marriage (is that London?), name of bride and same info, and I will see what I can do.

could be a carpenter, but since his other jobs include optician and nautical instrument traveller then I thought it might be compass.

William Ellis was married in 1866 in the Parish of St Mary's Spital Square, Middlesex. The address looks like 35 Brick Lane, but I don't know if Brick Lane is in this area. He married an Ann (though sometimes known as Anne or Annie) and by 1871 they had at least two children - James (circa 1869) and William (circa 1871). Young William looks to have been born in North Bow Middlesex.

William Ellis was born in 1840 in Tower Hill, Middlesex. Annie was born in St Mart Axe Middlesex in 1843.

That's all I have so far I'm waiting on Ann's death certificate at the moment so I can try and trace her birth a bit better, there see,s to be a few discrepencies. I think she may have been illigitimate.

Could you mean optical nautical instrument traveller...as in telescopes ?

Maybe, though on some of the census the job has a cross through them, why is that?

If often means they have been compiling statistics, and have crossed through each entry as it's counted.

Can you tell us what William Ellis fathers name and occupation were from the marriage cert?

Williams father was Thoms Ellis, I have his occ as cooper.

I'm not sure where he was from but I think it was somewhere in Middlesex.
