I have posted quite a few topics lately trying to find my ancestors.

Kindly, people have replied with information but when I try to check the info (I usually keep copies of records) I can't find it.

I'm not sure if they are using Ancestry and I'm using GR and the available records are different, or I'm just not searching correctly.

Could someone please let me know what I am doing wrong?

I'd say they are using Ancestry or Find My Past, as Gr search records are very expensive

I renewed with the full GR package and luckily it's only for 6 months.

I feel such a fool asking for help finding things that other people seem to find fairly easily.

It is a bit daunting when you first start out, but like as lot of things, it gets easier once you get the hang of things.

Can you provide some details as to what you are looking for.

I'll nudge it up for you to see. I suggest you save the information and try to get to know some of the sites.

I am trying to find the parents of Agnes Fitzgerald, born either Mile End Old Town or St Georges in the East.

1881 & 1891 census shows her year of birth to be but I have her marriage certificate which shows her aged 21 in 1898. (I know that they didn't always tell the truth about age)

Beacuse neither the 1881 and 1891 census shows her living with her parents and siblings, and she's married by 1901, I can't seem to associate her with any parents except that the marriage certificate shows her father as Thomas Fitzgeral (deceased).

I have also looked for her in 1901 (then Deering) and can't find them on GR but others have found them as Derring.

Lynda do you mean that others can find your family on Ancestry but you can't find them on GR?

Yes, others find the info but I haven't asked where they found it. When I try to verify it on GR; I can't.

Walter Deering & Agnes in 1901. Walter was born approx 1877. Others have found them listed uner Derring but when I try to verify it, I can't

Hi Claire, Are you able to do the same search on GR?

Not sure how GR's records work. Are you able to use wildcards such as Dee* to bring up all the surnames begining with those first 3 letters

I have just searched for Agnes Derring on GR and get the message "Sorry but there were no results found matching your search."

I don't know why I subscribed to the full GR. I guess I thought all the searches would be the same...

Try Deering & Dearing

Hi Claire, yes you can use wildcards on GR

Well that something then!

Try Agnes Dee* then Der* & then Dear*.

Put in her year of birth as 1877 & don't input a county as Ancestry is not showing one

When searching for Deering I get:
Agnes 1873 Bucks Wendover Buckinghamshire Wendover

When searching for Dearing I get:
Agnes 1869 Bucks Worminghall Camberwell
Agnes 1872 Yorks Rotherham Yorkshire Leeds General Serv Domestic

and Derring gives no results.

Searching for Agnes Der* yob 1877, no county, gives:

Agnes 1877 Norfolk Gt Ormesby Berks Warfield House Maid
Agnes 1877 North Wales Nfold Somerset Frome Housemaid Domestic
