Oh, well done Ivy - that must be the same chap, surely - with such an unusual occupation and uncommon name. |

Also think Britchford is a good possibility. |

I think it says optician for Willian thought the writings not good. Sounds wrong though because Mary herself couldn't write (She signed Hannahs birth certificate with a mark) and I would have thought an opticians children would have gone to school so maybe it says something else. |

Can't find her birth - the closest to it was this entry - bit of a long shot but it's possible her name was a) misheard by the registrar and spelt incorrectly or b) mistranscribed over the years on the indexes (or it might not be her at all!). |

Does the occupation of her father look anything like the one mentioned on her marriage cert? |

This looks promising. Thanks. |

Can you give the 1901 census details for us please - I have looked but cannot find any Mary Ann Howarth's born Whitechapel, with husband James. Was it mistranscribed? |

In 1901 she's Mary Ann Howarth living in Sheffield but recorded as having been born in London Whitechapel. My nans birth certificate shows Mary's maiden name as Bridgeford but I can't find her birth. She married James Howarth on 12/9/1982 and at that time lived at 9 Daisy Court Sheffield. Her father was recorded as William. No idea who her mother was and not much luck with finding WIlliam either. |

She's being very elusive but I do have a copy of her marriage certificate which gives her address at the time of marriage. Are there any web sites that list who might have lived at the same address at the time (in between census's) |
