Hi Jane, the news about Edwards death was a tremendous help (sounds a bit morbid !!), and I really do appreciate what you have done, infact I'm over the moon, but as you say I will need the 1911 census. As for Spendmore Lane, nothing I'm afraid on that. But Holdings Cottages is the correct one. |

Could the marriage certificate say Spendmore Lane? |

Ok, I have now found her aged 59 when she died in 1953. As you have said there are no births for a Bertha Elizabeth Walsh for the correct period but perhaps she was just registered Bertha. Possible death for Edward |

Very many thanks Carole. If anything happened to her family after 1901 that may well explain a lot. Best wishes. John |

Hi Von, many thanks for your reply..Her age was on the marriage cert., as 24 (1919), which made the year 1895. Which was the same year as my father's, but no date or month on any letters etc., Which gives thought that she didn;t really know her own actual date of birth, so just took his. regards, John. |

Hi Heather, appologies for the delay in replying - It was "Father's name and occupation" on the marriage cert, not next of kin.. Witnesses were, William Crone and Williame Moore.. Married at St.Johns Church, Shildon..Married John R. Nunn. |

I dont understand "next of kin" on the marriage cert- did it not say "Fathers name and occupation"? Who were the witnesses? Where was the wedding and erm, who did she marry? |

Many thanks Claire, it really is appreciated. But what happened to Bertha after 1901. That's the problem. You see, she died back in 1950, and no one seemed to know much about her past. Marriage certificate in 1919. (Date of birth same as her husbands, next of kin - Edward Walsh, Deceased.) |

I really am grateful for the work you have put in. But this Bertha Walsh MUST be the one who married my father in 1919. (on her marriage certificate she didn;'t know her actual date of birth and put it down as 1895 (The same as my fathers). Her next of kin was Edward Walsh (deceased)..So you see the dilemma. No actual proof that this Bertha was the same as the one born in Chorley in 1893.. |
