Did your husband have any sisters? Perhaps the baby belonged to the sister but your husband's mother tried to pass the baby off as hers. |

I think I would try Social Services. Tell them your husband thinks he had a brother who may have been adopted, and see if they can find any record in the area. |

If the police investigation resulted in a prosecution, there should be a write-up in the local paper, which you can find in the library of the area concerned. |

So the birth was actually reg but the address did not exist ........ I am wondering why the police would have got in touch with the GRO, not wanting to jump the gun, but could a baby have been taken in the area, and they where looking for leads. |

Was your husband born before or after 1970? Does he have other siblings who might know? |

Something must have made her state that address, ie. perhaps she had some link to it or had lived there. |
