Mike

Thanks to your sterling work at the weekend I now have some more information about my great great grandmother Ann Bodycote (1849-1929) and her antecedents - and lots more work to do!

Someone has also found Ann and her family on the 1861 Census in Ilkeston in Derbyshire, miswritten as Bardicott, which at least may give us a clue to the pronunciation. Her father turns out to be quite interesting as he was born in Bengal, India in 1821 and his mother in Madras about 1803. Add to that the fact that two of her uncles were born in St Lucia and we have a well travelled family - not bad for an FWK!

Do you have the disks for St Leonard’s parish registers? I am looking to check the baptism entries for Joseph Bodycote 23rd April 1799 and Edward Bodicote 24th December 1765.

The other one I need to check is St Margaret’s 21st October 1788 - the marriage of Edward Bodicote and Elizabeth Noon.

All the best

Sheila

Hello Mike
Tis me again.

Please can you help me with my Hall family in Belton. I am having trouble finding the death of Mary Hall who married Charles Hall in Belton on 17/6//1816.

I have found her in the 1861 census living at 60 Long Street in Belton with her daughter Mary and grandson Arthur. In the 1871 census she is at 22 Long Street living alone.

I have found a possible death registration for her in 1877 Q1 7a 89 in Loughborough but the age is not quite right (she was born 1796). Please could you check the parish records for me to see if this could be right or if there are any other entries that could be possibilities. Thank you.

Hope you are well

Hi All

I am researching a branch of the TIMSON family (my mothers family). I have traced them back to Higham on the Hill c1714, thru Burbage c1764and onto Leicester around 1830 to date. Among the families related by marriage are MARCH,GOODE, YATES, SATCHELL, FOXEN and SMITH.
Anyone with similar interests are welcolm to visit my www.tribalpages.com site where I have many photos(some of people as yet unknown), certs, and notes. You will find it listed under Ken from Hunua or ken1066. If you find a connection and can assist me to advance the tree I would be very greatful!!
Thank you

Hi Elaine,
Thanks.
Just had a look at the original and you are right, it's definatly George Tyers.
Your George Lemon is interesting, Sarah's father was called George, according to the census born in Liverpool around 1821 and he's another one who's baptism record dose'nt want to be found.
Sarah's daughter Fanny was living with him on the 1891 and 1901.

Hello Sue

Have had a look and couldn't find a lead but then decided to have a look for Henry Beswick. If you have a look 1901, Clara is there with a George Tyers aged 20. I couldn't find a George Tyers to fit so thought this was interesting!

Clara Beswick 11
Henry Beswick 40
George Tigert 20 (???must be Tyers really)

What do you think?

I have a George Lemmon as a witness at one of my families marriages!

Hello everyone,

I wondered if any of you kind people could help me find the death of my G Grandfather.
His name was Albert Tyers and he was born in 1856 in Laughton, Leics.
In 1878 he married Sarah J Lemon and they had two children, Fanny born 1879 and George in 1881 both in Leicester.
In 1881 the family can be found living 46 Sherrard Street under Tyer.
In 1891 i can find no trace of Albert although Sarah is living in Fox Lane with son George and a lodger named Henry Beswick and his 2 year old daughter Clara. Sarah is listed as the head of the household and classed as married not a widow.
It seems to me that Clara is probley her daughter but what has happened to Albert ?
I can find no death for him at all.
Sarah died in 1898 ( 38 years old )
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Karen Report 12 Jun 2008 23:07

Hi Mike and Elaine,
Sorry for taking so long to reply....I had a little snooze.....

This my version of a 'film'

The film one can order from the LDS family histroy centre can be photographs of the original document ( Parish records, transcripts)that have been put on tha reel of film and are viewed thru a monitor type machine. these films can be census, parish records ,wills. If you go to the LDS web site, and on the search page there a 'LIBRARY' heading ,click on that, there are some more headings on the right, try PLace Search and go from there.
These films are where the members obatain most of their info, but not all all info is pulled from the film and recorded. And sometimes what is pulled is not transcribed on to the IGI correctly, as we all know . Here in Aust its one of the only ways we can get the info.

As noted in my last contact, the film I have is the wrong one, All Saints , I have now ordered one for the St Margarets areas... I just cannt find any NOON 's that match up with William Noon and Elizabeth Goodman m 1802 ( which you found for me Mike.)
I have found a number of children from the IGI and have traced them from the census on Ancestry web site, but would you beleive Thomas b 1814 (which is my line and my starting point ,and you found his birth for me,) is not on IGI, so there could be other children as well. When looking at the census, most of Williams children were in the 'boot making 'trade, ( which Thomas was) which ties in..

Once again tks for the help. and I hope my explanation was not too confusing.

Cheers
Karen

Hi Mike,

Could you check out a marriage for me when you have time?

I've found the following marriage on FreeBMD:

Marriages Jun 1888
Mason George Smith W Leicester 7a 315
NORTH Clara Leicester 7a 315
Plumtree Elizabeth Leicester 7a 315
Porter Amos Leicester 7a 315

The person I'm interested in is Clara North.
I can't find an obvious candidate for any of the 4 possible couples in the 1891 and 1901 census - there's always something that doesn't match.

Can you find who she married on your discs? She's not showing up in the Mann index for St. Margaret's.

Following on..

I would like to know what you see when you order a film via LDS and how much more (or not) you can view as opposed to what is on the net. I have never been to one of their centres to research and am curious as I need to look at parishes down south

Hi Mike
Karen of Brisbane here...

A couple of weeks ago you kindly did some look ups for me on the Noon family of the St Margarets area, which gave me heaps of leads, it was great.

I am now looking at the parish records 'film' for the All Saints area ( thru my local LDS family history centre). When I went to order the film it told us that these records would also include St Margarets, St Martins and several other areas that I needed. So my questions is , am I looking at the wrong film to find more info on my Noon and Goodman families ? and if so could you steer me in the right direction. Getting these films is the only way I can get the info from this side of the world. I am very lucky ( if its all correct ) with this film as its been typed out, so very easy to read.

Look forward to hearing from you...

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 4 Jun 2008 23:34

Greeting’s again Elaine.

There was only two C of E churches in WIGSTON MAGNA

All Saints & St Wistans…..
But I believe that St. Wistans was under repair at that time

So All Saints seems to be favourite.

1789. Charles Son of John & Ann Hurst Bapt ….19th August.

Can not see a Marriage of Charles to Lucy anywhere within both City or County of Leicester……..
And there is No Marriages on the I. G. I Batch numbers site for Stow market.

But Noted this Baptism :~

11th June 1810.
William. Son of Charles & Lucy Hurst.
Wigston Magna.

Then there are more on the St. Margaret’s Baptism Disc….

Seeing the years we may not be able to find out the Maiden name of Lucy except though the Marriage Registers
All the children were born before the certificates started That would have been an other way to find out her maiden name …..

I can cast my eyes over the registers at the Records Office but it will not be now till next week.
