Has anyone ever requested an estimate for documents before ordering from National Archives? |

Yes its brilliant i got 5xgrt grandads Army record that way he was in from 1825 to 1849 and came out as a pensioner I paid the min £10 for the estimate and you then get an email giving you the total cost for the docs, if its less than th £10 then you dont get a refund of the diff, you click on the link within the email to confirm your order and then wait for the copies to be sent to you by snail mail . Mine was on A3 paper and about 8 pages so was well worth it |

You can only request copies if the item has been indexed on the catalogue. If his name and any appropriate record doesn't come up in the search, then a longer search would be required, which only you, or someone else (not their staff) could do, by visiting Kew. |
