I can't find Ellen Maud Speddy on 1891 census. Her mother, Elizabeth died in 1886. Her father, Henry on 1891 census with 2 sons as a boarder. There is talk of Ellen being in an orphanage.
Ellen was born in 1884 Scotforth, Lancashire. Can someone help to find her please.

I haven't found her, but do you have her birth cert and know that she actually belongs to this family because the son Frank age 7 in 1891 was registered the same qtr and year as Ellen but they aren't the same page no so therefore I would presume they weren't twins.

Hi Christine, I am looking for someone else & that is the info she gave me. Can find her on 1901 census, aged 17 as a servant.

I found her in 1901 also, so I suppose if they haven't got the birth cert, that is the way to go.

I have just looked for Ellen, Eleanor, Nell, Nellie, Nelly, Maud with the surname Spe*, b 1884 + or - 3 yrs, but no luck.

No, it doesn't solve it but maybe she was born to an unmarried mother and then the mother married so she is under a different name in 1891.
That happened to a relative of mine and then in the next census she was back to her birth name.

Bingo! I wondered if I should have had Sp*dy for the surname. I put in just the surname Speddy, y.o.b. 1884 +/- 3 yrs and it came up with a list which included Eleanor aged 7 in Lancaster, Lancaster.

I will ask her, as I think she has her marriage cert. Will see if her father's name is on that. I also tried different variations of her name.

Now you just need somebody to look at the image.

Go to Records, then click on 1891 census, then type Speddy into the surname box and 1884 into the y.o.b with +/- 3 yrs. It brings up a list, among which you should find Eleanor.

Also on the list for those b 1881-87 were Jane 5 (possibly mother died giving birth to her?), Frank 7, John R. 9, William H. 10.
I dont guarantee these are all in the one family.
You could look for older children by putting in a different b year, or making it +/- 10 yrs.

She certainly doesn't come up on Ancestry.
The Frank and John R are in one family and Jane And William H in another, so where is Eleanor?

If I had the time I could look at all the microfiche for Lancaster/Lancaster to find the families, but it would be a big job and I generally go to town only once a week, the LDS rooms are only open in the mornings 10-12 (well evening as well but I have choir practice) and I have a lot of other research to do.
You need somebody who has spare credits on this site to look at the image. I have never bought any.
