Following on from our message board survey a few months ago, we have made some changes to our message board which are outlined below
You now have a message board profile which you can update on the My Account page. As before, you can use a message board name, but you can also add a profile photo and signature detailing the names and places you are researching.
We have added some emoticons for you to use on your posts.
You can watch your own or your favourite threads by clicking on ‘watch this’ at the top of the thread. On the’ Watched threads’ page you can tick a box which opts you in for an update email. You will receive an email from us letting you know which of your favourite threads have new posts. You can opt out this at any time by unticking the box on the watched threads page.
You can choose to keep your name private on the site and you will be shown using your message board name. Your message board name will also appear on all emails you send, on other members contact page, on tree permissions, Hot Matches and the My Updates page. You can do this on the My Account page.
We have merged some existing message boards and created some new ones. We now have General Chat (general and chat merged), Genealogy Chat (Tips board re-named), Quizzes and games, Find ancestors (Records office, Trying to Find, general surname and surname history boards merged), Find living relatives and a Suggestions board. All old posts have been transferred and merged to the correct boards.
On the Find ancestors and Find living relatives boards you can mark your posts as answered. This will appear as a tick on the main board page to show that you are happy with the responses you have received and no further help is necessary.
