You have to have the 'knack' !!!!
Seriously though,
I went to the census first and decided approx when they would have married (early 1880's)
I looked for the obvious first on FreeBmd - putting in both names - no results
Then I checked back on census and found where their children were registered - 'Dunmow' !!
As they always seem to have lived in that same area, it was probable that the marriage would be registered there! so I then searched putting in that reg. district on both names individually.
There was a William French reg Dunmow 4a 649 and there was a Rebecca Wood - same quarter, also Dunmow but 4a 619.
It then becomes obvious that one of them has been mistranscribed so I went and looked at both the images - William's was correct and Rebecca's actually said 649 - the same as William.
As I said, - 'easey peasey' (when you know how!

P.S. - Did you see the details I posted above about a possible marriage for your Eliza?

Hi Lisa,
You are supposed to be on holiday !!!!!!!!!!!
Can't resist can you?
Haven't done much recently as my grandson is soon to arrive - his mother has been having problems so I am on permanent 'washing, ironing and looking after grand-daughter' duty.
He will probably be arriving by caesarean on Wednesday!.
I will see what I can find for you when I get a minute.
Enjoy your holiday and come back with a 'healthy brown glow' !!
Speak soon,
Dea x

hi Dea,im back from Spain and rareing to go!!if you're not too busy with your new grandson could you have a look at this for me? i got Robert Hy Woods birth cert,it says his mother was Annie Wood formerly Marvin.Although i have found her on many census records after her marriage to Robert Hy,(on each record it says she was born in Hawkwell,Essex.) i cant find her birth, the only Annie Marvin i can find who fits was born in Rochford(abt 1 1/2 miles from Hawkwell) iv also found what i THINK is her working as a servant born abt 1852 Rochford,Essex.working in Kingston on Thames(1871 census). im sure its the same girl (my gggrandmother) would be gratefull if you could take a look & maybe shed some light on the different birthplaces. kind regards Lisaxx P.S iv also found her birth (1853) and death 27 Oct 1916 (14 days after her son William Charles died in the Great War) on familysearch.org

Hi Lisa,
Have only got 5 minutes so check these carefully please:
1). I believe the Annie on 1871 you have as a servant is probably correct - Hawkwell is in the reg. district of Rochford.
2). This would be her on 1861:
1861: Ann Marian (can't remember if the image says Marven or Marvin but it is her!) Age: 8 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1853 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: William Mother's Name: Susannah Gender: Female Where born: Hawkwell, Essex, England Civil Parish: Hawkwell Ecclesiastical parish: Rochester County/Island: Essex Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage: View Image Registration district: Rochford Sub registration district: Rochford ED, institution, or vessel: 4 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 38 Household Members: Name Age James Cleghorn 17 Ann Marian 8 Charles Marian 1 Henry Marian 6 Michael Marian 18 Samuel Marian 19 Sarah Marian 10 Susan Marian 4 Susannah Marian 39 William Marian 48
Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 1085; Folio: 63; Page: 7; GSU roll: 542750. ................
This is the most probable for her birth:
Births Jun 1852 MARVEN Ann Rochford 4a 154 (please check image as ist digit may be a 9?? - not very clear).
............
Her parents marriage:
Marriages Dec 1839
MARVEN William Rochford 12 405 PAGE Susannah Rochford 12 405

Big and healthy,
He is 5 days old - can lift his head - knock out his dummy and hold his bottle to feed !!!!!!!!!!!
His 'big sister' sticks the dummy in whenever he cries - bless !!
He hasn't quite mastered sleeping yet though !

My first instinct is to say Susannah Page - I seem to remember there was another William with a Susan?
However, I need to look into this and be sure what I am telling you is correct.
Can you give me a couple of days to follow it through?
