Did he have siblings?

That is the only Whitlark death in NSW. Do you know when/where his mother died?

morton ashton had one sibling phyllis lilian whitlark c. 1902 but she died at some point between 1921 and 1936 as she is the one who is deseased.

I also can't find a death for her she was travelling to Australia to see her parents when she drowned. She was married so would have been phyllis waston-wood or phyllis wood at the time of her death.

In 1924 morton applied for assistance from the Australian Military I think this is when his sister died.

Oh, no, oops, that was Phyllis ...

Sophie

Sophie Report 8 Sep 2009 00:34

hiya my grandfather was douglas hamilton watson-wood c. 1921

His mum and dad Douglas Harold Watson-Wood c. 1885
Mum Phyllis Lilian Whitlark c. 1902. Died at sea around 1924. no records found of the death.

Phyllis Mum Ada Emily Wise c. 1873 married John Ashton Whitlark c. 1869.

They moved to Australia in 1913. They had 2 children Phyllis and Morton Ashton Whitlark c. 1897.

Morton Ashton and John Ashton joined the Australian Military together on the same date at the same place in 1915.

They were both returned to Australia in 1919.

No record of Morton Ashton after this date.

Ada Emily and John lived in Lilli Pilli NSW until 1936. He died in march 1936. I don't know if Ada stayed or went home to London. Can't find a death record for her here or in Australia.

So, I have no death record for Phyllis Watson-Wood or Wood, died at sea.
No death record for Ada Emily Whitlark.
No records of anything for Morton Ashton Whitlark although he was alive at the time of his fathers death in 1936??

They can't have all disappeared?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Sep 2009 00:36

Sue -- Can you see the image? That's just too coincidental - the name and date.

Ada would have been 63ish. Any chance of a mistranscription?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Sep 2009 00:38

Sophie - my money is on that AE Whitlark returning to England in 1936 being your Ada.

That means scouring the untranscribed images at Ancestry for her death between 1936 and 1984.

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8966

Or waiting for Ancestry to transcribe deaths for that period, which shouldn't be long now.

Sophie

Sophie Report 8 Sep 2009 00:40

I saw that record for ada returning I assume that must be her there aren't many whitlarks going to Oz. I wondered if her dob is 1873 they mixed up the 1903? or she just looked good for her age??

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Sep 2009 00:44

Just on a side note, Sophie -- is Whitlark now an extinct name in England?

There are two births in 1945, sisters, in Yeovil district. Both girls. The lastest male marriage is the matching 1945 marriage in Bournmouth - oops, no, there is one in 1969, but there seem to be no births to that marriage.

Just curious since I have one -- Rushland, which became extinct in England around the two sons of my grx4 grandfather Rushland died childless in the early 1800s.

Hi

Just updated my post the age has been mistranscribed, she is down as 63

Cheers Sue

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 8 Sep 2009 00:45

Re dob for AE Whitlark - the record would likely state an age rather than a DOB -- 63 could have been misread or mistranscribed as 33. I don't have access to Ancestry UK deluxe or I'd look -- hopefully Sue will! If it does say 33, it could still have been mistranscribed into the passenger list, I would think.

edit - Just saw your correction, Sue; good stuff!

how did you know what address she was going to? Argyle Road is in ealing london and its still there! how do I find out who was living there? I think I have to look at the census or something

You're all so clever!
