Hi there, my name is Kathleen McDonald (nee McKenna). My grandmother was Mary Waterson by birth, but was known as Mary Evans on her mother's marriage to John Evans. Mary was born 08/03/1882 in Haddington, East Lothian, in Browns Lodging House. Her birth was registered by her father, John Waterson, of 36 Lombard Street, Sunderland. He was a travelling riddle maker and could read and write. His parents were Patrick and Bridget and he had at least two brothers, Bartholomew and Charles and one sister, Catherine. After he registered my grandmother's birth, nothing more is known about him or his family. I'd love to hear from anyone who knows anything about them. |
