CHELLET1980

CHELLET1980 Report 10 Nov 2008 17:19

am trying to trace my father’s side of the family
My father’s death certificate say
Ernest William George Fredrick Albert Edward Alexander Topham

And that his father was Thomas George Jackson (I estimate the age to be between born no later than 1900 and as early as 1850) a Cole miner

And his mother was Amy Elizabeth Topham c1891 a cotton winder

0n my father’s birth certificate there is no mention of George Thomas
Instead there is the name of the informant as E.A. Topham who is believed to be Ernest Albert
As to whether E.A.. Topham is Amy Topham’s’ father or brother I have yet to establish

My father’s given name was also Ernest William
And not as found on the death certificate
Although I do know of them and his use of them
The names are of his grandfather and other family members

He was also known to have used the name Ernest john Topham

My father was born on the 23-07-1916 at union place Glasshouse Street Nottingham u.d.

I have vague memories of him talking about hull and South Africa where he served during ww2 as a cook in the officers’ mess serving with the Sherwood foresters I think I also have a document that states he his of South African descent although this is not proof of and/or unlike to be his heritage as I know my father did embellish is past in order to hide it
