Hi Joanne,
I'm going to post this then try and work backwards. I'll see if I can find his marriage to Frances. I've noticed that his wife is Mrs F Darby.
Name: DARBY, WILLIAM GEORGE Initials: W G Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Civilian Regiment/Service: Civilian War Dead Age: 64 Date of Death: 21/10/1940 Awards: D C M Additional information: of 167 Langham Road. Husband of F. Darby. Injured 20 October 1940, at Turnpike Bus Station; died at North-Eastern Hospital. Casualty Type: Civilian War Dead Reporting Authority: TOTTENHAM, MUNICIPAL BOROUGH
I'm wondering if he was catching a bus to work.

Hi Deb Im still looking into Druscilla Death but wondered if you could link the Smiths at Moat farm, Mill Green, Edwardstone 1901 census to all or any of the above ? Father Daniel Smith Mother Sarah Smith nee Salmon had many children & my direct line is from one of their children Frances Smith who was the mother of my grandmother "Joyce Marsden nee Darby" & her brothers Gordon & John Darby.
Im told that Frances married a Darby and that he was a baker/breadmaker & was killed on way to work in London during the blitz 1941.
Many thanks Joanne.x
