Roy-this is a tricky 1!Im breaking it down but its taking time.Lets start at the beginning...This i hope is the 1891 census you have with George-father?
1891 England Census about Arthur Stanway Name: Arthur Stanway Age: 28 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863 Relation: Son Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Mary A Gender: Male Where born: Lambeth, London, England Civil Parish: Gorton Ecclesiastical parish: St James Town: Gorton County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View Image Registration district: Chorlton Sub-registration district: Ardwick ED, institution, or vessel: 72 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Ada Marsh 16 Arthur Stanway 28 Emily Stanway 3 Florence Stanway 7 George Stanway 51 Henry Stanway 24 Herbert Stanway 9 Mary A Stanway 41 Maud Stanway 5 Rose Stanway 17 Ruben Stanway 14 Now i found this one...with his brother Henry mentioned on 1891 and Rose and Ruben, and father Abraham!Jobs matched for Henry on both census. We also have both mother Mary A
1881 England Census about Henry A. Stanway Name: Henry A. Stanway Age: 15 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1866 Relation: Son Father's Name: Abraham Mother's Name: Mary A. Stanway 15 Mary A. Stanway 30 Reuben Stanway 3 Rose A. Stanway 7
Think this is Henry's birth record-looks like his forenames move around too!.
England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index: 1837-1983 about Abraham Henry Stanway Name: Abraham Henry Stanway Year of Registration: 1865

Hi Michelle,
Could you try to find the following person ( my Grandfather) in 1871 and 1881 Census. He was orphaned and ' put out ' to a Baker to learn the trade around 1870. Have him in 1891 and 1901.
ARTHUR GEORGE STANWAY ( reversible forenames)
Born 1863 Lambeth London Father Abraham George
May have been in workhouse/orphanage/school.
Thanks and a happy New Year

Sorry been out for a bit! Taken a look-not much showing is there? tricky one this. I have a few like this in my tree and what i have found is the place of birth can differ from census to census and from person to person-ie Mum may give correct place of birth then grandad next census writes it as different and when the child grows up they often wrote place of birth as the last place they remember living as a child! Found this one Berkshire-East.Hanney but not Newbury but Husbands working tonight-not fair is it!so i'm online all eve once my daughter gets to bed so promise i will look further into this.
Here's one for now-

Hello Michelle, I don't know if your offer still stands but I'm having no end of trouble trying to find out an ancestor on the 1841 census. I have tried Ancestry. com etc using all the various combinations of his name without any luck. The ancestor is a JOHN (BULL) Binge born in c1786 I think in Yorkshire, but was baptised in Lincolnshire. His Mother was a CATHARINE BULL. He died in Sheffield in 1843. His wife and family were all living in Sheffield and his occupation was as a Pawnbroker. Can you help please? Michael

Hi Michelle and thanks for you offer.
I am looking for Mary Alice Sumner who from the 1871 census when she was married to George Rampton ,M.1869 in Mortimer , Berks .and born Newbury c1846. I cannot find any record at all prior to the marriage except for a child born in 1866 in Rotherwick, Hants. The child's name was Emma Jane Sumner ...I have the B. cert. but is named as Rampton on 1871 census. Basically I am looking for Mary Alice Sumner before 1866
Many thanks Michelle......Lulli x

Michelle,
Realised as soon as I looked at it, that i have checked these children out before on the 1861....that is William Adams father with his brother John who married Kate/Catherine jones in 1854 in Warrington, and I had previously found the 3 childrens births all in warrington in 1854,1857 and 1859, the eldest Margaret has a middle name Atherton which is also the middle name of one of William Adams sisters, so thanks again but this is not MY missing Leslie children, but it is their cousins.

Michelle, thank you so much for all your hard work, the family in 1841 is William Adam with his parents and siblings, I already have that I also have the death details for John henry and Emily in 1861 , i just hadn`t ordered the certs yet ,but am pretty sure thats them, the family you have in 1861.......intresting as you say the names match but the ages don`t..... but grandfather may not have been very good on ages { presuming he was the one who provided info to the census taker} so will have a closer look at this, if it is them "staying with grandad" it will at least account for 3 of them. William Adam died from Phisitis {TB} shortly after what looks like 2 of their children....... Mary then commited suicide 5 days after her husbands death..... she must have been in a bad way to leave 4 children with no parents.....Adelaide I have managed to trace on, she went on to marry and have many children, and Margaret {my Gr grandmother} went on to marry and have 8 children as well, so despite the awful tragedy in their childhood, they seem to have ended up ok.....I have never traced William or Mary Jane sucessfullly....... there are an awful lot of William Leslies and a few Mary Janes which would mean ordering quite a lot of certs. to try and get the correct ones, not a cheap hobby this family history! lol thanks again for your help, another pair of eyes always helps.
