Hi Chris

1861 census has John Whiting on the search as born 1832 and this is the age shown on the summary which most people use to send info of lookups(saves having to write them out as they just cut and paste)BUT I ALWAYS look at the original image as mistakes can be made in the transcriptions and I do not cut and paste results all my results are taken from the census image.Takes a bit longer but I believe gives more accurate info.
Anyway, looking at the image it shows age 39(shown in the column for Females) which has been crossed out and age 29 inserted in the column for males,as I believe this to be the correct family I will show the age as 39.

1861 5 Bedford Place,Southampton All Saints

John Whiting Head 39 Chimney Sweep b Whitchurch(enumerator error!!!)
Mary A Whiting Wife 27 b Southhampton
Hannah Whiting Daur 7 b Shirley,Hants
John Whiting Son 5 b Southampton
William Whiting Son 3 b Southampton
Elizabeth Whiting Daur 1 b Southampton

1891 Still at 5 Bedford Place,Southampton
Mary Ann Whiting Head Widow 57
Henry Whiting Son Unm 22
Martha Whiting Daur Unm 24
William Whiting Gson 9
Frederick Whiting Gson 8mths
All born Southampton
No occupations shown on image.

Kind regards
Mary

Hi Mary
Re John Whiting
Sorry Mary, I meant to say in my last thread that he was in Southampton in 1861 It would have made it a lot easier for you to check
Info I have is John Whitimg b 1832 Whitchurch hants
Living in Southampton with wife Mary Ann in 1861 census
Died Southampton 1871 before census bmd death index has him born in 1922 (transcription error?)

Would like to know what was happening with him/family, parents in 1841&1851
Would you also mind lookng for the family on 1891 census.
Thanx a lot Chris
PS Have since found out that John Whiting was born in Southampton and not in Whitchurch as first thought

Hi Chris
Can I check year of birth for John Whiting was it 1832 or 1822 as I am having trouble finding him born Whitchurch in 1832 and 1822.
Could you please give all details of what you already have for him as there seems to be a couple of Chimney Sweep families called Whiting around in Hampshire, but not in Whitchurch.
is he on the 1871 census??
