Hi Mary, I have a slight problem finding my GG/Gdad. According to my G/Gdad's Marriage Cert, he was 19 when he married (25 dec 1860) and was still 19 on the 1861 Census (April) So I accept that on face value, he WAS 19, born first Qtr 1841.
On the M Cert he said his father was John Edmondson. So I look for a George aged 9 on the 1851 Census. There is one in Manchester, mother, Mary, Widow.
So I look on the 1841 Census, no George with father John. But one with mother Mary, and same siblings as on !851 census, Father THOMAS!!! Georege 4 months!
I sent for a birth Certificate for the only George Edmondson born in Manchester 1839-1842. Mum Mary ( Taylor), Father Thomas!! Looked for a marriage in IGI of an Edmondson to a Taylor in Manchester. Mary Taylor married Thomas Allison Edmondson. 1838 mancester. Can I assume George's father was NOT John. If so, was George's father Thomas. If so, was he Thomas ALLISON?? When I searched IGI for a Baptism for a Thomas Edmondson, I found a Thomas Allison! His father was Thomas and his Mum was Elizabeth Allison!!. From here on it is plane sailing back to the !720s. BUT was Thomas, Thomas Allison?? I can't find a defining link. Can you advise, as this link is improtant to where I go from here. John

Hi Mary
Thanks for the census info on the Drummonds. I would love to have the later census info on Thomas. Got a couple of questions...firstly what are filks? (family?) secondly.. on 1851 census Margaret Adam SIL 12 Scholar. Do you have any idea what the SIL stands for? Would it possibly be sister in law as Christian's maiden name is Adam. Would you mind looking for John c1800 and Mary c 1806 Adam on 1841 census possibly with daughter Margaret c1840 and Christian 1823 in Old Kilpatrick.
Kind Thanks, Julie

Hi Mary, Any chance of some help please!!! Desperate. I have a Lewis Jones married to Matilda Ann Miles in 1896 3rd October I have their Marriage cert. but was hoping to find Lewis's date of birth I have him aged 27 on the Wedding cert and his father is Joseph. They were living at High Street, Taibach, Glamorgan. The marriage took place in Neath district, county of Glamorganshire and Brecon. Is there anyway of finding his correct birth cert I have tried the Hugh wallis site and can find one with a christening date of 17th December 1868 at Taibach which seem about right with father Joseph and mother Mary but on free bmd I have two coming up for Neath both with a vol 11a but they have different page no 513 and 478 same year I am unsure as to which one is correct. Can you help me at all or am I just going to have to get both. Totally lost on this one so anything you have to offer in the way of help would be really appreciated. I have him on 1901 census with wife and 2 children Mary and John which also states born Taibach. Help!! Many many thanks Brenda x

Hi Mary
Could you look up Sarah Mead born 1872. Should be living in Chiswick with William (born around 1834) and Henrietta Mead (born around 1854). I'm trying to find out what her birth place is. On the 1881 census it says Farnham Green and on the 1901 is says Chiswick. Could you look her up on the 1891 census. This could help in determining which one of Williams wives was her mother.
Thanks
Kat

Hi Chris Not good news on the White family. I cannot find a John White b 1868c Bishopstone in any census from 1871 to 1891. Another problem there are two Bishopstone places in Wiltshire, one near Swindon and one near Salisbury,I suspect the place is so small it is only known by locals(yokels). Also I cannot find a marriage in the timescale. Neither can I find a birth reg for Sissie. The only birth reg I have found is for the youngest child on the 1901 census: Violet Louisa White Dec Qtr 1900 Salisbury 5a 158.
I think the only way to trace the marriage is to get the birth cert for Violet which will have MMN on and hopfully we can find her and maybe John on the way.
So sorry, but lets hope it is only a minor breezeblock wall and not a major brickwall.
All best wishes Mary

Hi Brenda Not sure if you can specify names of parents on applications for birth certs, might be worth finding out. I looked on the 1871 census for Lewis Jones b 1869 and there werea couple but no others with parents Joseph and Mary(very biblical). Do you have details of the family in earlier censuses???I have found them back to 1871,lwet me know if you want details.
Kind regrads Mary

Hi Mary, I have what I think is his parents back as far as the 1861 census, It was just trying to find out which of these births was his so I could find both his parents names for sure I have a Joseph Jones from the marriage but they dont give the mother and I have a list of the children all 10 of them but I needed to be sure this definately was his family. I will just have to take a chance and order one see what comes back and then go from there. I wasn't sure how much more info you got on Ancestry etc compaired to the free bmd. It will be worth it in the end. Do you think the registry office where it was recorded would be worth contacting it would be local for me I haven't done this before all mine are from scotland these are hubby's family. Sorry to be such a pest you've always been a great help before thought I could ask you this. Thanks very much for the reply anyway. Brenda x

Hi Brenda If were you I would try contacting the local Reg records. You may be lucky and speak to someone who is helpful and not a"jobsworth". Try a phone call first much cheaper than sending for a cert on the offchance. You get no more info on Ancestry in fact you get less because you cannot cross match Spouse.
Let me know how you get on
Good luck Regards Mary
