It's been so long since i looked at this thread, and it's popped up on my 'old threads'

I remember finding something relevant, i'll have to go back over old notes and see what it was.

Can you just remind me of the basic facts as they stand now to jog my memory.

Update

I finally managed to have access to the Mancheter Census of 1851 that was damaged.
There is a James Greenwood listed as a lodger in Salford aged 21 which is about the right age with a year or two.

He is listed as working as a Fustian Cutter in the textile industry.

If this is him, I cannot see how he links to the 1861 Census where James Greenwood was living in Bilston working as a Boilermaker.

On the 1841 James is only 9 or 10 and the only plausible possible James Greenwood is living with his Grandmother.

A possible father Richard Greenwood ( Names stated on marriage cert) is living over 10 miles away as an Agricultural Labourer.

I need to link the 1841 and 1851 census to James in 1861.

Im still stuck trying to find James Greenwood on the 1851 census.

The census states birthplace Oldham and Bolton

I guess the real place was somewhere in between like Rochdale.

Therefore Lancashire rather than Yorkshire.

He could have changed his name, but why between 1851 and 1861.

How did he go from tending engines at 18 to making boilers at 28 over 100 miles away.

Lots still to think about. I guess I may never know the answer to this.

That one in 1841, mother Sarah - mother has no occupation, so she doesn't seem to be the one Tracey says she found.

But interestingly, that 1841 household has an Ellis Knight, age 44 (I think, could be 24), occupation *engineer* -- no, I think it's 24, his wife and baby are on the next page. I was thinking of a stepfather for that James ...
