Hi Anthony
I think your best bet is to get the cert as you need to confirm if it is the same man. The cert will give you his age, occupation and his father's name.
If you get this information I will happily do some more digging for you.
Best Wishes
Andrea

Your welcome Lyndsey.
I know exactly how frustrating it is when the rellies live complicated lives! It took me a long time to get to the bottom of my ggg grandmother but it was fantastic when all the pieces suddenly fitted together.
If you need anymore help just let me know.

Hi!
I am trying to find the marriage of Patrick Donaghue to Ann ??? They raised children in Port Clarence with the first 5 cited as being born in Middlesbrough. (1901 census)
I cant seem to find them on any census before that even though I think I have found Patrick DonOghue as a boarder on the 1881 census in Escomb, County Durham.
Agh! Im new to this and I have gotten stuck already!!
ANy information on that branch of the family would be appreciated! Thanks!!! :)

Hi Andrea, Again, thank you for this information. Unfortunately, we do not have any documents for this family as we have been looking under Hignett for so long and they do not exist! Now we know why! Now we are just going to absorb this mammoth amount of information and see what we can retrieve via the internet and other resources. In the 1901 census there was a Sarah Allen, who was a domestic for Thomas Hignett in Seaforth and her relationship to the head of the family was cousin so this all links up to Matilda Allen being Thomas' mother! Phew! Thanks again for your time and patience and you have managed to make a dull Sunday afternoon very interesting indeed! If I do find out any more in the meantime, I will post it on here! Thanks again, Lyndsey.

Hi Lyndsey
In the 1881 census they were definitely at the same address so it must be the same family. Likewise in 1871 they have the same children so again it looks pretty definite that it is them.
There are loads of William Hignett marriages but none to anyone called Matilda.
Another theory could be that the real name was Wilson but they were known as Hignett. This actually happened in my family when my ggg grandmother had several children with her live in lover. They were all technically called Moore but were known as Smith. Some were married as Moore, some as Smith and one even as Smith-Moore. She was buried a Smith because that was what she had been known as. That took me some sorting out I can tell you but it means that there is a possibility that your William could have used both names if, say, his mother re married or something like that. That would explain the change of name.
Do you have the birth certs of any of William's children?
Best Wishes
Andrea

Hi Andrea, Thank you so much for that wealth of information - certainly given us a lot to think about! It does seem very likely that you have found some new information for us, but can I be really cheeky and ask if you have anything else linked to this please? Preferably in the way of marriage, birth, death certificates, etc or indeed any more information?? My dad has visited Liverpool library and seen the 1881 census on microfilm (about 8 years ago!) where this family were down as Hignett living in 4 Kew Street but your information certainly tallies with names and ages of what we have here.
I am so grateful for the time and devotion you have given us.
Lyndsey (and family!)
