Hi Dionne,

I've been reading your thread with interest.

I noticed there's no entry for a Jean Sloper, other than your own. If the lady you have contacted is your fathers sister, then I would have thought she was adopted and would have married in her adopted surname. Which is why there's no entry for a Jean Sloper.

Hope that makes sense!

I wouldn't rule out the possibilty of the birth someone else has found before Dorothea married as well.

Good luck

Hi Brenda.

Just did the search and it worked for me this time.I have sent jean a message so fingers crossed. I noted that her name was Pothecary. Wondering if it was worth doing a search for that name to see if she married and her maiden name was livermore.or do you think it would be best to wait and see if I hear from her
Thankyou
Dionne

Dionne,

At the top of the page is a quick search. type in Herbert Sloper , Click "search " and it will take you to others with him in their tree. The person who has him in their tree is called Jean. A coincidence or perhaps one of your dads siblings?

Good afternoon all.
Thankyou for your replies.

Rose..... I have done a search on the trees and cant find any names listed.Would you mind telling me exactly what you typed in.

Selena. On the marriage certificate is does say Bromley. It is a good idea about the local newspaper but I am a little worried about posting a message in it as I dont want to upset anyone.I still really dont have any guarentee that my father did have these two sisters.

As for the childrens homes. My father was sent to Shaftberry Homes.my mother wrote on his behalf twicw and we still havenot had any reply.
my father then went to a home in grenwich and all the records were destroyed in a fire so no luck there.

I was thinking of obtaining the two girls birth certificates but do you think that would really help in solving the mistery?.

I was also going to try and find information on my fathers uncle Henry L Sloper and his Aunty Katherine.Purhaps they both got married and had siblings. You never know my father just might have some cousins out there somewhere and a family apart from his wife and children he can call his own.

I am really greatful and thankful for whatever help and assistance you can give me in making one of my fathers dreams a reality.
MAny thanks
Dionne

Just going back to Wayne's idea about the newspaper ad. The local newspaper is called the Newsshopper, a free paper that is delivered. Let me know if you want the website.

But, I noticed that the younger daughter was born in Willesden which I think is in North London, so it seems the family moved away from South East London.

Dionne, just thinking aloud here - did you buy the 1930 marriage cert of Livermore to Sloper in Bromley?

Mottingham borders the boroughs of Greenwich and Bromley (also a little bit of it in borough of Lewisham) . Also I noticed Jean 1934 was born Woolwich which comes under Greenwich borough.

I hope someone can find a marriage for you for either Jean or Judith. Fingers Crossed.

Dione,

Managed to find a birth for Herbert James Sloper and confirmed his dad was a gardener. He is listed as being born in Merton in 1886. Someone has him in her tree on this site. Might be worth contacting her.

Dionne,

I've been reading your thread with interest. One thought! Does your Dad know the name/s of the childrens home he was in. Maybe they would have some kind of record/ file on him which might give some insight into why he was placed there. Maybe it would also give info on his possible sisters?? If he doesn't know the name of the home then maybe the local county council could help?

Dionne.

I have had a look for the elder sister on marriage records and while i can find a few Jeans i cannot find one that would match location etc. There is the possibility they were adopted and recieved new names? which would be unfortunate for your father... have you tried putting an ad in the local paper to where they were all born? you never know someone might read it who knew the family!

Dionne

A few weeks ago some of you kind members helped me to find out some information on my father.
He never new his family or father. He only had what little information his mother gave him in later life when he met her before she died. Unfortunately after receiving her marriage certificate to his father we now know that she told many untruths.
Some members found possible sisters for my father but couldnt really take things further untill the marriage certificate was obtained. The sisters names were Jean A Sloper d.o.b 1934 and Judith C Sloper d.o.b 1937.

The details on my fathers parents marriage certificate are as follows.
married 24th Dec 1930 in the district of Bromley,Kent
Father Herbert James Sloper age 44 - Bachelor
Mother Dorothea Maud Livermore age 21 - Spinster
Residence at time of marriage The Grange Lodge,Mottingham Lane,Mottingham.

I have tried to find information on the possible sisters but have only been able to find their births with matching parents names. I would be really greatful if anyone here could possible try and find out anymore information on these sisters.
Many many thanks
Dionne
I am just trying to confirm that my father did indeed have two sisters and to maybe find some sort of record showing that they were all living together at some point.

I have a
Jean A Sloper.mmn Livermore
qtr March 1934 1d 1295

Judith C Sloper mmn Livermore
qtr Sept 1937 3a 586

my father was brought up in Childrens homes and has little knowlage of his family background. He only met his mother a few years before she died and only had her word for his ancestry.
