Well you both have done me proud.Yes My Grandfather was George Hillman Bowyer. We think that he took the name of Bowyer when his mother re-marrried, we do think his mother was named Elizabeth. George moved from Gloucester to live and work in Birmingham as an apprentice carpenter. He married Louisa Shaw on 12th April,1857 and had 10Children.
Elizabeth christened 8- 4- 1860
John William b 4-6-1862
George Henry b 26-11-1864
Julia Louise b 1-2-1868
Walter b 23-8-1870
Eliza b 22-12-1872
Thomas b 20-8-1875
JOSEPH HILLMAN b. 19-8-1877 " MY FATHER "
John Edgar b 19-3-1880
Alfred,Albert,Ernest b 7.7.1881
It is amazing how my grandfather names HIS children
after his siblings. We know we are on the right tract.
MANY, MANY thanks for ALL YOUR INFORMATION
Gerri, please tell Sylvia that I have family in Hamilton,
Ontario,they are my Niece, 4 great nieces and I, great,great niece & nephew, and 2 great,great,great,
nephews and I am only 59.
You both have made me happy. Thanks once again. Oh My grandfather died in Aston, Birmingham on
12th August 1897 and my mother passed away
12th August 1995 what another coincidence.

Regards to you both for all the effect that you put into this for me.

Hazel,

Thank you for the thank you!!

I hope Gerri and I did find the correct family

You now need to get some birth and amrriage certificates to prove the information ....... certificates are the only way to be absolutely sure you are following the right people.

Hazel,

Looking at your information again ....................

........ I think you have some very careful work to do to connect up your George Hillman Bowyer with the family that Gerri and I found.

For example:- "We think that he took the name of Bowyer when his mother re-marrried, we do think his mother was named Elizabeth"

The Elizabeth that we found, mother of George, died in 1843, and her husband John remarried to Harriet

SylviaInCanada Report 16 Sep 2007 23:45

I have found George Bowman on all censuses from 1851 (when he is married to "Elizabeth" and living with his in-laws) 1861, 1871 and 1881when his wife is "Louisa"

........... I have found a birth reigstration for Louisa Elizabeth Shaw for 1838, which fits the information for her, and which answers the question of her change of name.

The children all fit.

However, the occupation on each cernsus shown does not fit what you say:-

1861 ............. Jet Bracelet Maker

1871 ............. Black Ornament Maker

1881 ............ Tool Maker

1891 ........... Cloth Dealer Second Hand.
