Hope you get well soon.

Could you please see if you can find any information on Thomas Highet/Hyatt/Hyett and Emma Ball, they had a daughter Lavinia Highet/Lovinia. Acording to Latter Day Saints records Lavinia was born in Harrison Hudson New Jersey in 1889. I know that by 1900 Thomas was back in Scotland, and Lavinia was in Scotland in 1901 aged 11. No sign of Emma in Scotland. I think she either died in New Jersey, or maybe they never married, although on Thomas's death cert in 1901 Emma is named as his widow along with another who was only married to him for 1 year.

It would be great to find out more about Emma

Apparantly Lavinia, my gr gr gr grandmother did not have a birth certificate.
Thank you
Joy

Sorry to disappoint, but I have no access to any birth information. Ancestry has censuses up to 1930 and some immigration records

Cheers

Hi Carol,
Thanks for offering your help. This is a longshot,I'm afraid. My ancestor in Scotland wrote in his will in 1873 that his daughter Ann Cumming, born 1832 in Moray,Scotland was married to a Mr. Tupton in the US.I searched the IGI but could not find any Tuptons. However I found one possibility-a William Tipton married an Ann Cummings in Franklin,Ohio in 1859.Could you kindly check the1870 Ohio census please to see if they turn up.
Best wishes,
Joan

Hi Jo

Sorry not the right John Nellis, but the one I found for you is the only one that comes up born in the right period in Michigan, there are two other John Nellis' born Michigan, but one was 1841 and the other 1867.

The only John E Nellis I could find in 1910 was born in Nebraska born about 1909, living with his parents Hiram S and Ida E - still on the 1920 census in Nebraska, but not on the 1930. Sorry

Re Dorothy, yes the D Fern entry was D Fern Boardman.

Sorry, Ancestry has no information about births etcs, only censuses and some immigration and military records.

Best

Hi Joy

Re Lavinia Hyatt, sorry no luck, if she was born in 1889, then she may have been recorded on the 1890 American census, unfortunately, that is the census that was mostly lost in a fire in 1925, and there are no Hyatt/Highet/Hyetts in the fragments that do survive.

Sorry I can not help regarding birth deatils as Ancestry has no such records.

Hi Jacqui

There is an Arthur Ashworth age 4 living with his parents John and Mary in Chicago Cook County Illinois on the 1880 Federal Census. Could this be him? Nothing on the 1890 (not much of that survives any way).

Sorry can't help further

Hi Lorraine

Re Walter Salter and family. Found them in the 1900 census for Prentice, Price, Washington

Walter N Salter, Head, Age 39, born Feb 1861, married 16 years, born England, emigrated 1894, in country 6 years, Farmer
Alicia, Wife, Age 38, May 1862, married 16 years, 6 children born, 6 living, born England, emigrated 1894, in country 6 years, no occupation
Bertram, son, age 14, Oct 1885, born England, emigrated 1894, in country 6 years, occupation at school

Winnifred, daughter, age 7, Feb 1893, England, emigrated 1894 in country 6 years, at school
David, son, age 3, Jan 1897, born Minnesota
Rosa, daughter, age 1, Jun 1898, born MInnesota

Looks like had a couple more children in 1890, moved first to Minnesota then Washington.

Here's the family in 1910

Seattle Ward 3, King, Washington

Walter M Salter, Head, Age 49, married 25 years, born England, occupation bookkeeper
Alice J, wife, age 49, married 25 years, born 8 children, 8 living, born England, occupatin none
Bertram N, son, age 24, born England, occupation cigar store
Maude E, daughter, age 22, born England, occupation clerk
Alice R, daughter, age 11, born Minnesota, occupation, none
David H C, son, age 9, born Minnesota, occupation none
Winnifred A, daughter, age 17, born England, occupation none
Walter J, son, age 19, born England, occupation carpenter sash & door
Caroline J, daughter, age 9, born Wisconsin, occupation none
Evelyn A, daughter, age 5, born Wisconsin, occupation none

two more children, also born different state.

1920 still in Seattle, going under the name of Lewbery, but same family - mistake by the enumerator?

Walter Lewbery, Head, Age 58, emigrated 1894, born England, occupation Accountant General
Alice, Wife, age 58, emigratred 1894, born England, occupation none
Walter J, son, age 29, emigrated 1894, born England, occupation janitor building
David, son, 23, born Minnesota, occupation Apprentice Sheet Metal
Alice, daughter, 21, born Minnesota, occupation Stenog Wholesale (Stenographer?)
Caroline, daughter, 18, born Wisconsin, occupation Operator Telephone
Evelyn, daughter, 15, born Wisconsin, occupation none.

And finally, by 1930 they've moved again and are living in California and it looks like all the children have left home.

Lodi, San Joaquin, California

Walter Salter, Head, age 69, age at 1st marriage 23, born England, emigrated 1894, occupation none
Alice J, wife, Age 68, age at 1st marriage 22, born England, emigrated 1894, occupation none.

Probably retired at this point.

Just out of curiosity, I also checked the New York Passenger Lists and found them on their outward bound journey - looks like it was written in pencil, bit difficult to decipher, but this is what I think it says

June 16 1894
Walter N Salter, Age 33 years 3 months, occupation Warehouseman, from England, destination Milwaukee
Alice Jane, Age 33
Bertram, Age 8 years 8 months
Maude E(lizabeth) (bit difficult to read think it says Elizabeth), can't read age
Walter John, 3 years 5 months
Winnifred Alice, 1 year4 months

Hope this helps Lorraine.

Cheers

Carol

Hi again Lorraine

Not much luck on Floyd Gibson, there do seem to be a few out there, however, on the border crossings from Canda to US in 1940 there is a Floyd A Gibson arriving 21 April 1940 and going to Buffalo, New York

Says he had a wife Flora, age 30 born Kingston Ontario 30 years old. The info is a bit difficult to read.

Hi Carol, thanks for trying to help but I don't think that the two names for Robert are of much use. Robert emigrated in 1921 and have seen his name on a passenger list for that year, I think that Isabella is a lost cause but I thank you once again for your efforts. God bless you and keep up the excercise, you'll be doing the Marathon soon
