Does anyone have any useful Scottish info on CD? I have the 1881 which is great for those of us researching North of the Border. Scotland is not on the LDS site and we would have to pay to view it on the Scotlands People site. It was really well worth buying. I also have the VRI second edition but I haven't found anything for myself yet on there :o(( Regards Margaret

Hi, On CD I have the 1851 and 1861 census for Brecknock, the 1851 for Bristol and North Somerset, the 1881 for the UK, the 1851 for Devon, Norfolk and Warwickshire. Name, birthdate, birthplace and likely location will help with a search. I have the 1901 fiche for Lowestoft - but need an address to search them. I have the 1851 index booklets for Mutford and Lothingland, Suffolk. Name date and place of birth needed for a search. I have the Suffolk Hearth Tax returns of 1674 and the Subsidy returns of 1568. I need the name of the town or village to search these. I have the 1850 Hunt and Company Directory of East Norfolk with parts of Suffolk. Name and Location, please. I have the Burials register of St Elli's church, Llanelli, Brecknock. I really need a full name and date of death to search this. There are more Jones and Powells than seems reasonable, even for Wales. And I have the NBI. Full name, approx date of death and county for a search of this. I'm happy to do specific searches on these but please mail me "privately" as I won't be checking this board very often and I wouldn't want to miss out on helping if I can. Stop press. I now have the 1851 for Gloucs, Bristol, Wilts and all of Somerset. This CD has head of household only and I need a village/tow/parish. I also have Paupers in Gt Yarmouth 1754 - 1844 (from Poor Law papers) Name, original parish and date, please. Gwynne

Helen in Kent

Helen in Kent Report 28 Oct 2003 20:08

Sarah, You're brilliant! The address has changed over the years but will be something like: Pound Farm (or Farmhouse), The Stocks (or Stocks Road or something similar), Wittersham, Kent. 2 or 3 houses up the road, depending on which census you are looking at, is The Mill House or Stocks Mill House. There also was a cottage between us and the mill called Lilly's Cottage. Further on is a house that is as old as ours called Prospect House. In the opposite direction, towards the village, (we are a mile outside Wittersham), is a house called Stocksway and another called The Tilehouse.Hope this makes sense: thanks, I know it's not easy!

Sarah I'm interested in what might be on your census indexes for Kent as my house is supposed to be about 200 years old. If you had an address could you see who lived there?I have found it already for 1881 and am working on 1901.

I have 1881 on disc with reader 4.0 that allows you to search by address. Also now have 1861 London - address please. Also have 3 useful books - Local Newspapers 1750-1920, Greater London Cemeteries and Crematoria and Specialist Indexes for Family Historians. The latter has lists by County - and general - and where to find stuff i.e. where to find marriage licences for Huntingdonshire or The Society of Brushmakers Descendants! Maz. XX

Don't forget that some companies that sell CD-ROM's of censuses, directories etc do not allow users to advertise that they are prepared to do lookups.
