Andy - they were in Easington Lane in 1841: (ages rounded down to nearest 5 after the age of 15) HO107/312 ED8 folio 14 page 21 name age occ. born in county John Wood 45 coal miner y Mary Wood 40 y Ann Wood 20 y Ruth Wood 11 y Hannah Wood 8 y Mary Wood 1 y These are other Wood families I came across when looking at Rainton: East Rainton William Wood 50 ind. y Ann Wood 50 y Thomas Wood 20 grocer y Mary Wood 20 y John Wood 35 butcher y Eleanor Wood 35 y George Wood 4 y John Wood 3 y hope this helps Linda

Linda, I may not have enough information for you to do a successful look-up but working on the basis that if you don't ask, you don't get, so here goes: Looking for Ruth WOOD on the 1841 census. She would be aged 10 or thereabouts (I suspect her age will be rounded down anyway). Her father is John WOOD (possibly aged about 40). Mother, I think is called Mary Ann (don't know her age). Ruth was born in Middle Rainton, so they may be living there or in West Rainton (a lot of my ancestors are from there). The only other info I have is that Ruth married in 1849 and was living in Elemore Vale, which is part of Easington Lane. She married in Pittington. Many thanks, Andy

Angela, have looked at Pittington, Sherburn and Shincliffe areas without success. The St Nicholas area of Durham is just too big to look at every village, sorry Linda

Dear Linda, Would it be possible for you to look up a John Coates Littlefair in the 1851 census he was born in Witton-le-Wear around 1844/45. I wanted to find out who his parents and siblings were. He married in 1868 to a Frances Defty. I would be very grateful if you could find anything of this family in 1851. Best wishes Diane.................

There are 2 lots of Murray living at Jeffrey’s Rake, Hunstanworth; I don’t know if you know but ages after 15 were “rounded down” to the nearest 5 in 1841. So a 23 year old would be listed as 20 for example. Name age occ. Born in county Adam Murray 40 lead miner N Betty Murray 35 Y Joseph Murray 7 Y John Murray 3 Y Adam Murray 1 Y Jane Graham 70 N Jane Murray 40 Y Joseph Murray 21 lead miner Y Jane Murray 7 Y Isaac Bell 25 N Hope these are the ones you are looking for Linda
