Hi Sally I wonder if you could have a look for an Alfred Birch born approx 1847 in Dudley. We know that he married in Sept 1871 (wife Ellen Adams from Dudley area) and we have found him on the 1881 census. I have not yet managed to find any more information to trace his parents. I have tried Free BMD for a birth record with no results and we will be trying the GRO records in the next few weeks. It would be helpful if you could look on the 1871 census for Alfred with his family, we assume he would be in the Dudley area as this is where he was married later in the year. He was listed as a steel labourer in the 1881 census. Any help you can give us would be much appreciated. David

Hi Sally, Many thanks for the info on Edward Sinnott. I think the Ellen Ormisher you found living with mother Ellen in 1871 could well be mine. I would appreciate you sending the details when you have the time. Lilian
