Hi Sheelagh I have had a look at the 1891 census image for Charlrs Wraith and it quite clearly says Bedfordshire for place of birth. I will have a look on 1837 online(have some spare credit ) later and see if I can find him.Got to take the dog out now. Regards Mary |

Hi Shirley in the North East The only birth I could find for an Ernest John Smith between 1894 and 1897 is Ernest John Smith Dec Quarter 1896 Newport Vol 11a Page 216. Newport is in Monmouthshire and there were no births registered for an Ernest John Smith in Monmouth(the town) I hope this is your man.Worth risking £7? Regards Mary |

Hi Mary, Thank you so much for your help. I don't have a name for Ellen's father unfortunately. When she remarried in 1875 the marriage certificate rather unhelpfully just records "deceased" under father's name, although her maiden name is shown as Graham. Interesting to find that she had been living in London with her first husband. No sign of the daughter by 1881; I'll have to look for deaths or maybe she stayed with paternal grandparents. Could you please look for the Goves family and the Graham family in Witney on the 1861 or 1851? Should then be able to find Ellen with her parents - hopefully! No rush at all, whenever you have time - they're my husband's direct ancestors - I'm more interested in them than he is! Thanks again, Linda |

I think it will be quite a while before Oxon 1871 is on Ancestry OFHS will resist as they sell the discs.I had to get the discs as all my folks lived in Oxfordshire at that period so could not progress without the info.Am now stuck waiting for Bucks 1861 to be released on disc. Just ask if you need more lookups Regards Mary |

Hello Mary, Thanks for your offer - please could you look up a couple of people on the Oxfordshire 1871 census? Ancestry don't seem to be in a hurry to add it! I'm looking for Joseph GOVES (sometimes recorded as Gove or Gover) aged about 18 or 19, born Witney, his later occupation was a Coach Builder/Smith. His father's name was George Goves (a Mop Manufacturer?). Also Ellen CHICK aged about 21, born Witney, married Witney in 1867 to a John CHICK - but he may be deceased by 1871. Her maiden name was GRAHAM in case she is back home with parents! Ellen and Joseph married in 1875, both giving their residence as Witney and continued to live there - High Street in 1881 and Crofts? in 1891 and 1901. Thank you, Linda |
