Rose Report 12 Mar 2005 18:34

Hi Joan, If you are going again and it is at all possible could you look up the records of the Childrens Establishment, Stepney Union that are held in the LMA. On the 1861 census I have found Nancy KELL aged 6 and her sister Martha KELL aged 12 there. It is very likely that Nancy is my great grandmother. There is no place of birth for her in 1861 but her sister was born in the Stepney registration district in 1849. On the 1881 census her place of birth is given as Whitechapel. Her father is possibly Charles Kell but I wonder if she was there at such a young age if she actually knew who her father or parents were. I would be extremely grateful for any information to help knock down the brick wall surrounding my Kell family. I am willing to reimburse any expenses should you be able to get photocopies of any documents. Best wishes Rose

Hi Joan Thanks for agreeing to try to find out my info for me. I have some news on one of my people! I have found out that William RUSSELL married Matilda Rebecca FORESTER at St Mary's, Newington on 24 Dec 1832. That should hopefully narrow down your search a bit! If you could find me any further details, I would be extremely pleased! Many thanks Regards Evie

Hi Joan, Thank you so much for the lookup!! If you are able I was wondering if you could search in the parish records for information on the Lucas family. My great great great grandfather was Richard Lucas, a sail maker and he was born c1811 in Rotherhithe. I was also hoping to find details of their daughter Matilda who was born in Rotherhithe c1846. Thank you very much for your kindness, Lucia :-)

Hi Joan If you get the chance I am looking for a couple of people, please! Leonard RUSSELL married Johannah ?? probably in Bermondsey in early 1830s. Also his brother William RUSSELL who may have married in Camberwell area in 1830s. And lastly, (for now!) John DAVISON who was born in Peckham, Surrey around 1800. Sorry to be so vague but if you could find anything at all I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks Regards Evie

Hi Shirley I can get the details of both your requests. Unfortunately a marriage in 1835 usually only shows bride and groom, the parish they were from and the witnesses. Joan x

Hi Joan I have 2 lookups for you when you get the time. The first is John Newman b 6/3/1820 c 26/03/1820 St Andrew Holdborn. His parents were John and Mary. I think that William c19/10/1817 and Susanna c5/1/1817 were related. Any additional information would be helpful. The 2nd is for William Haslam. He married Eliza Brockwell 24/08/1835 St Mary Newington. I have hit a brickwall with William's parents. He was b Salford at 1815 but lived Merton Surrey. Would his father's name be on marriage entry? Many thanks Shirley

Hello Joan, I am looking for birth/christening record for James WALLIS b:1819 St Lukes MDX (birth date/place is consistent on all Census 1851-1901). According to James`s marr. cert (1842) his father`s name was also James. Many thanks Regards, Sherryl in NZ

Hi Anonymous Link I don't think the LMA is going to be of any use to you at the moment. According to the website the only Buckinghamshire holdings they have are just a few years registers of electors. Have you tried Freebmd or 1837 online for the dates you have ? Joan x
