Hi Allan, The only mention of a Hall is right at the end of the Annals in the notes made at the end of his notebooks. He refers to a Mr Hall of Hutton Hang who, according to the subscribers list for the Parish of Bedale in 1820, contibuted 2 shillings and 6 toward the cost of a new organ. The total cost of the organ was £284 and 12 shillings. You'll have to go back a bit to see if this is one of yours! Good luck. Louise

Hi Denise, I wasn't very hopeful as Robert Hird did not wander far afield but we've got a hit for Caygill in Snape! I'm afraid it's a bit of a gruesome tale. FYI - the extract below is taken from Robert Hird's notes to a section of the Annals about Snape. Louise --- ' 1838, July 16th, Robert Caygill of Snape, aged 9 years, on his return from the Webraine farm, where he had been to fetch his father's Cow from the Bull, was unfortunately killed. The boy had fixed a rope to her head and to his arm; she became furious and ran off, draging him on the ground to the entrance of the Watery Lane, where he was found by three Irishmen, who unloosed him from the beast and gave information of the accident to the inhabitants. He died the next morning.'

Gillian, There are no Parkers mentioned in the Annals. The nearest is a reference to a Susanna Parks who lived at Bedale Cross and sold bread. Louise

What a great offer, would love to find something like that. Could you possibly look for Caygills in the Snape/Well area, just up the road from Bedale Denise

Maureen, No Robert or John Atkinson. Names mentioned are Ann, Frank, Richard, William, Joseph, Mark, Peter and Henry. There are some Rapers. Thomas Raper, a carpenter John Raper, attorney Henry Raper, citizen of London There is also mention of 3 sisters called Raper: Caroline, Henriette and Elizabeth but it isn't clear who their parents were! However, these had some money as Caroline left £50 in her will to be distributed to the poor of Bedale and Aiskew. Louise

To Kate Shaw, Unfortunately there is no reference to any Lishmans. Louise

Maria, There is a reference to a John Pearson but not much personal detail I'm afraid. These are relevant verses from a description by Hird of things going on in the village. 'We pass'd the bridge, all things were fine, Not what was wont to be. When old Kit*, he kept his gamecocks prime, And his old smithy. Blacksmith by trade was Collinson, Great cockfigher was he, Terry and Wray and John Pearson, Such was the company.' (* Christopher Collison) So, there you go it seems that John Pearson was into cockfighting! Louise
