Hi Gaynor, Its very strange but I can find no trace of her in 1871! I did wonder whether she may have died, poor lamb, as a child but then I discovered a marriage ref which may well be her? Hi, Louise. Sorry, i wasn't able to catch you in time! Re Jane Howard, Her husband was William Sampson, they were my Gt Grandparents and I got their names from my Nan's birth certificate - Edith Elizabeth Jane Sampson b 14 june 1903 at 10 bourne street Croydon. Jane's family lived at the same address from 1881 onwards. I can't find anything on william Sampson at all as I don't know where he was Born? I did find a birth for a William Thomas Sampson june 1898 in Croydon Surrey and wondered if he might be their son? as i've been told that my Nan had four brothers Jack, Jim, Bill & Fred. This is so difficult as my nan (edith) died in 1943/4 when my Dad was just a toddler and my Dad died in 1984. Thanks for all your help, it's very much appreciated! Regards, Gaynor.

Hi, Louise. Thanks for that! The earlier deaths could well be Grandparents, Uncles etc as there doesn't seem to be that many Sampsons in Croydon. I've found the majority to be from the west country! Morning, Louise. Please could you have a look for a John Howard on the 1861 cencus, b c1837 in Croydon. He would be about 24, he could possibly be living with his wife Elizabeth ? b c1841 in Croydon. (I don't know for sure as i can't find a marriage for them?) Hi Gina, James the younger would have been born too late to show on any census. His father may well have been born too late too (assuming he was say, 25 when his son was born, that would make him born around 1906). I had a look at 1901 for you and there were several James Sharples' born in the late eighteen hundreds in Lancashire. I need a little more info I'm afraid, to filter out the rogue Sharples! :O) Any idea when he may have passed on, and the age he was when he died? At least then we can work out roughly when he was born. But I did find one James Sharples born in Clayton le Moors who might be a link - see what you think.... I think he's too old by far to be the father, but possibly an uncle or even James Senior's father?
