Hi Susan Copenagen Street is still there, I went to school there, and in the early 1900's my Great Grandparents owned a shop, some of it however is new, do you know the number of the house you want? If so I will look for it for you. I have never heard of London Street in Islington, I was born in 1951, perhaps it was renamed? Lynda

Hello HRH, Orchard Street & Bolyn Road were taken off 1881 and 1891 census respectively so it maybe there were mistranscriptions. The other address I had was 82 Mildmay Road,Islington where my G Grandmother got married from address off her marriage cert in 1873. Don't worry if you can't do it ,it was only a thought. Best wishes Jenny

Hi Lynda, My great uncle died in WW1 in 1917 and his casualty details show his widow's address as 13 London Street, Copenhagen Street, Islington. Do you know whether these streets still exist? Regards, Sue

Hi Jenny I am only in the Islington area on Saturday I'm afraid so cannot do Holborn. Your Islington requests, There is an Orchard Close, but unfortunatly it is nearer to Highbury, than where I will be, but I am willing to do it the next time I am in that area, let me know if you think it is the right place. I can find nothing for Bolyn Road, there are a few in London spelt Boelyn, but none in Islington. Lynda

Lynda ~ Report 20 Jun 2005 15:22

Hi Kaye I have not heard of Red Hill school, so I telephoned the Local history dept, they looked up the name Red Hill, and nothing was listed, they hadn't heard of it either. They think it may not have been a school. I looked on the 1901 census, but couldn't find the name Atfield, in Islington with a reference to Redhill school. If you can give me the name of your Uncle, or the reference number for the 1901 where he is, I will look at it and see if I can figure it out, or if not will look in the Islington library for you on Saturday and see if they can help. Hi Joyce Is St Edmond the king and Martyr a place or perhaps a pub, only I have never heard of it, have you a Road name? Also Lombard Street, there is one in East London, Holborn/Clerkenwell area, if you mean it was number 24, that is now the MITSUBISHI TRUST & BANKING CORP. I'm afraid I won't be going that way on saturday, but if you think that this maybe the one you are looking for, I don't mind telephoning the bank for you too see if they have any old photographs. Hi Lynda, You say Information offered, so I'm wondering if you could help me at all please. I have an Islington Family (Atfield). In the 1901 census my great uncle by marriage is listed as being at 'The Red Hill School', Islington. From the census image it looks like a boarding school of some sort, as it has Officers, nurses, servants, cooks etc. This family also ran/owned a hotel for commissioned officers in Islington during WW2. Do you know of anyway that I can find out if the school is still there and what kind of school it was and whether there would be any electoral rolls for the war years (or after) to see if I could track them down. Many thanks, Kindest Regards, Kaye.

Hi Lorraine Do you know where he lived, or can you find out, What about the school he went to, or work, or which which church he may have married in? The more info I have the more I can find out for you. I was born in Islington, so know the area well, but Islington covers a large area, so I may not be in the bit he wants. But will try. Lynda
