Hi, have hit a brick wall with my Macfarlane, McFarlan, McFarland research. Have Charles McFarlane b about 1787-1790 in Scotland according to a family researcher's book written in the early 1950's. A Census has him born in Delaware (state or a county in Pennsylvania). The Charles MacFarlane born in Scotland may have been the father. Family tradition has the immigrant Charles coming to America as a young man along with an uncle and 2 brothers. The uncle settled in Maryland (family researcher believed his surname was Wright). One brother went to New York and was a doctor. The other brother went to western Pennsylvania and was never heard from again. The family is suppose to have come from the 'lake region' ?? where?? Charles had to have arrived in America before 1811 because I have hiis marriage record that year in GA. Do not have access to Scottish records and do not know where to start. Went through Ancestry searches and could not find documentation of a Charles McFarlane's arrival in America (probably at Philadelphia or Baltimore) and migration to GA. Trying to link to correct family in Scotland. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Anne

Hi Dawn Re Charles Cattanach Ballater comes under the Parish of Glenmick, Tullich & Glengairn West Aberdeenshire its 43 miles west of Aberdeen - near Balmoral. I've tried Scotlands People for Charles birth with various dates but nothing comes up, there is a marriage for an Alexander Cattanach & Isabel Cattanach for 1824 - right names for the parents wrong date for marriage unless Charles was born before they married or has given his wrong age on a couple of census!! I appreciate your looking again Jean

Hello Dawn Thanks for your kind offer. Could you please see if you can find two marriages: Jean Bicket and Robert McKinnon, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. It should be around 1840. Also Thomas Riley and Isabella McGregor c.1840 I have birth cert and marriage cert for my g.g.grandmother Margaret Ada Riley. On the birth cert her parents were Edward Riley and Agnes McKinnon. I have found Marriage of Agnes McKinnon and Edward Riley 18 Sep 1860 Kilmarnock. That cert says Agnes' parents were Robert McKinnon (wool spinner) deceased and Jean Bicket. Edwards parents were Thomas Riley and Isabella (nee McGregor) The only marriage I can find for Bicket - McKinnon is Jean Bicket and Hugh McKinnon 12 Dec 1828. I have sent for this cert but the years are well out. It is rather a coincidence that two McKinnons married a Jean Bicket If you could find the marriage Jean Bicket to Robert McKinnon and Thomas Riley to Isabella McGregor, I would be very grateful. Many thanks Jan

Thanks for looking Dawn. The last one in Dunkeld could be him, if he was late getting christened, he got married in 1815. Maybe his mum died and his dad remarried Christian! To make things worse, he was later known as Donald lol thanks again Marion

Hello Dawn Thanks for trying. Yes, that is the parents and ties with what info I have, thanks. It's a strange one this, the births of their two children born c1833 and c1841 who died at birth/in infancy are recorded on Scotlandspeople, yet no sign of anything for their three children who lived (even though I have approx. birth year for two and an actual date of birth for one). Maybe one day something will turn up, somewhere (mind you, I have only last night managed to place the parents and children Isobel & David together on the 1841 Census, before John was born so at least I have something 'concrete').
