Hello again Mary: I have no real reason to believe they travelled separately. But typical of my family they were completely inconsistent in what they told census enumerators. In 1900 Walter said he immigrated in 1882 and Jane in 1883; in 1910 he said they both immigrated in 1880. They were certainly in Scotland in 1881 - they were on the 1881 census, and in December that year married in Edinburgh, with baby James born in 1882 in Scotland before they sailed to USA - I believe later in 1882. But it's a possibility that they met in America, returned home to marry and have the baby, then re-crossed the Atlantic in 1882. It's a tangled web, Mary, and if nothing shows quickly, don't go to too much more trouble - I really appreciate your efforts thus far, Kind regards, Gordon |

Hello Mary, Thank you for your kind offer. I am looking for Mary Susan Camp who emigrated to Canada in the late 1890's (she has vanished from the 1901 UK census). I know she ended up in Ontario but it is possible she was in British Columbia for awhile. I am interested to know who she went with as she would have been in her late teens (she was born 1881). If you need any further info please let me know. Simon |

William F. Cornell born 1848 USA British Subject help finding him and his parents in the 1850 Census? Hi Mary, My husband's ancestor was a William F. Cornell born around 1848 in the USA but down as a British Subject on the 1871/1881/1891 Censuses. I'd appreciate it if you could see if you could locate him in America. Have him and his wife and daughter on the 1871 Census William F Cornell born about 1848 United States Head St James Clerkenwell London Elizabeth M A Cornell born about 1851 St Dunstan, Middlesex, England Wife St James Clerkenwell London Isabel Elizabeth Cornell born about 1870 Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England Daughter St James Clerkenwell London I've just found a William (aged 61) and a Frederick (aged 44) Cornell both born in New York on the 1901 Census. Living in Islington Frederick was a Jeweller Manager and William was a licensed victualler. William Frederick would have been 53 though! Was he lying about his age? William Frederick's eldest daughter Isabel Elizabeth married a Frederick William Boyton who was a silversmith in Hatton Garden whose sister's father in law was a Wine Merchant! Hope this helps. Many thanks. Louise |

Hello Mary, Wonder if you can help with this one. Walter Davidson (joiner b 1855), new wife Jane, and baby James emigrated from Peeblesshire, Scotland around 1881-82, and were next heard of in Dunmore, Pennsylvania in the 1900 census. I also have them in 1910 census and their children in later censuses. What I'm trying to find is the exact date of their immigration and the ship they sailed on (I would guess out of Glasgow). There's nothing on Ellis Island site for that period, don't know if you have any different info. Best wishes, and fingers crossed, Gordon |
