lesley thanks for trying ,i wasn,t holding out much hope anyway , they have been an absolute nightmare . could you please see if you can find any deaths for william hill born 1857 in scotland and rachel hill nee wright born 1857 in scotland but lived in wallsend [tynemouth distict] they were still alive in 1901 sorry i know its not a lot to go on . and any marraige between elizabeth mason and stephen james smelt[1901 census he called himself charles haven,t got a clue why ] both born in hull [beverley] about 1860 , 1881 census they were both in scarbourgh and single , 1901 census they were living in wallsend and had 3 children . hope this all makes sense as my typing in skills are hopeless thanks catherine

TERI I found it BUT it hasnt got the wifes name on page. Thanks Lesley, It transpires that was his first marriage! his 1st wife died after their daughter was born in 1848 but in 1851 he's on census as widower, in 1861 he's on the census as being married to Martha, daughter is still there, so its def same one, thanks anyway Teri
