Hi I am trying to trace my Great Great Grandparents. John Reid born c1841 married Thirza Weybourne or Wyburn born c1841. Not sure of marriage date but it must have been around early 1860's. They had two daughters Jessie Thirza born 1866 in Bethnal Green either, April, May or June (my Great Grandmother) and I'm afraid I don't know the other one's name. On my Great Grandmothers marriage certificate dated 1866 (in Scotland) both John and Thirza were deceased. His occupation listed was a Spirit Merchant. All I know so far is that they were Cockneys and owned a pub in London. I think it went on fire and they were both killed. The two daughters were then sent to Scotland to live with their uncle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Kay Message update More info.... Jessie Thirza Reid's sister was called Annie Margaret Reid born 1863, possibly Bethnal Green, London, also. I think the two girls were very young when they were sent to Scotland I have been told also that their little brother perished in the fire. I'm certain that John Reid, their father was born in Scotland but moved to London, where he met his wife, Thirza. Regards Kay Message update I have traced the marriage between John Reid and Thirza Wyborn (Wybourne). She died in 1868 aged 25. He was down in the 1871 Census as a widower age 40, so the theory of them dying in a fire was unfounded. His occupation was listed as a Licensed Victualler I have managed to trace her parents names - Robert Wybourne and Ann Wybourne and found them listed in the 1861 Census - Great Wakering, Essex. He was a Master Shoemaker and was deaf. In the 1871 Census Jessie Thirza Reid age 5 was living with them. Now I am stuck and can't go any further. I can't find out Ann Wybourne's maiden name. All I know is she was born c1821 in Foulness, Essex. Sorry this message goes on a bit. Any help would be appreciated. Kay |
