Hi Anne, I'm back for more info on my Hardie family of the Saltcoats, Stevenston, Ardrossan area. You kindly gave me some 1881 census info but William wasn't on it. I have my suspicions he may have been at sea and wondered if that would show on your census, I know some give the boats etc or in a Naval residence. William John Hardie was born circa 1847/8 and, according to the 1861 census, his birth place was Ireland. And one final one for the moment (you'll be pleased to know I'm going away on hols for two weeks!!!). Joseph Henderson (born circa 1847, possibly in Haddington - was certainly there at time of 1851 census) who married Janet (aka Jessie) Wardrop(e) born 22/3/1848 in Mid-Calder, Midlothian. They married in Newington in 1875 but may have gone across to Ayrshire by 1881....so that's anywhere south of the M8 then! They had a son Joseph born circa 1881but I'd like to know the rest of the family set up and where they were/what doing. I do know at the time of marriage Joseph senior was a groom and Jessie a shopkeeper, apparently they were widower & widow at the time of their marriages so there may be other children with different surnames. Hope this all makes sense, it's my second stab at this as my 2 year old thought he'd find out what happens when you poke the computer with a stick!!!!! Anything you can find would be great. The Isabella I am looking for was born 1819 in Kilsyth, Stirling and I am hoping to find this couple and figure out if she is the one I am looking for. George DONALDSON married Jean Scott in 1871 at Anderston, Glasgow. They had two children (that I know of) Mary McFarlane DONALDSON b1872 and James DONALDSON b 1874, Milton Glasgow.
