Gosh! What an offer, what a star :0) !! I can't pin down my great-great grandfather between his birth and his marriage. (1851 / 1871 / 1861) Edwin Robert Challis Born: 23 June 1844 to Robert Challis and Elizabeth (nee Spackman) - High Street, Dartford. I got this info from my 3rd cousin, so I guess she's got a birth certificate. Strangely, online BMD can only find a 'Ray' Challis birth record that fits. Possibly, Robert Challis died before Edwin was born, or thereabouts. And probably, in those days, Elizabeth married someone else pretty quickly. Then no trace until he gets married 1875, City of London, then 1881 census (Camden) with wife and children, then dies 1887 (before his son.. so, maybe hstory repeating itself!) T'would be really fantastic if you could find any trace in 1851 / 1861 censuses? I have searched these census before - but need to auction a kidney first on Ebay to carry out more :( Very many thanks Hilary

ok Tracy something to tickle your brains My GG Grandfather Richard Chantler b 1862 Camden Town, but on his birth cert he was born Peter McGregor Campbell to Peter Campbell & Georgiana Maria Campbell nee Chantler. Georgiana married in 1857 John Chantler who must have died, and she went on to marry Peter Campbell. Found their marriage cert 1865 Oops. I have never been able to find either Peter or Georgiana in the 1861 census - Peter was an Engine Shunter both born abt 1837. Good luck Linda

Frances, I can't find out who they married. Since it is after the census, there is nothing to cross-reference with. I did look for a Sarah in 1906, and there wasn't one. I'm really stumped with this one. I can't find any Fellinghams marrying, except the one you have.

Frances, do they have any of the birth certs? If not, I'd say get one of those. It should have all her names on it, so if she was married before, it will (hopefully) say.
