Andrea Have you just assumed that because the Registration District was Houghton le Spring that they would be at Houghton Le Spring Houghton le Spring Registration District covers quite a few parishs If you click on Houghton le Spring it will give you all the parishes involved They are not at Houghton le Spring St Michael

Shirley St Luke's Ferryhill I am afraid you are out of Luck as over the pages that you need are 3 certificates of Death Registration covering all or rather most of the entries... you cannot see the entries on the pages.. at all..

Maureen They lived in D'Arcy Street which is about 100 yards from St Michaels in the middle of Houghton itself so unless they were baptists or methodists (which I didn't think they were!) they should have been at St Michael's. They must have been non conformists back then as they had always lived around there since coming to the North East so would be unlikely to have gone up to Newbottle/Fence Houses or Hetton. I'm hoping to get to the records office before Christmas so I'll have a look for them in the other registers. Many thanks for your help. Andrea

Maureen Not only am I laughing I'm dancing and whooping. I've just received a bc for one of Margaret Howes grandchildren who had the middle name Kilburn!!! And I already had Margarets father John as a Blacksmith, so not only have you found her and her sibs youve confirmed her Mothers maiden name too. Thank you so much. Hi Maureen I've been thinking about this quite a bit and I'm wondering if Sunniside Methodist church was there at the time, albeit not in the building it is in now. They did move over to the Sunniside area later on and it's probably no more than half a mile from the centre of Houghton so I think I'll have a look there. Maureen I have given in and ordered both certs today! This is a Christmas present from my kids to my ex mil and I was trying not to spend too much on it as it is supposed to be a 'stocking filler' but impatience has got the better of me so they are on their way! (Along with the four I already have for this we are hurtling towards double figures but ... if a job is worth doing right .... Wish I could get to the RO more often myself but I work until 2 every day and have to be at home at 3.30 for my youngest coming in so it's rare I get the chance. Maureen, Thank you for having a look for me. Sorry I haven't replied earlier. If it is not to late, one of the birth certificates I have states that the address is 20 Lodge Terrace, South Bishopwearmouth this cert is dated 1883. Thanks again for going to all this trouble for us. Julie

Maureen I don't live far from Houghton, Newbottle area so know it well - wouldn't venture through the main street in the dark though! LOL That info is actually very useful - The Nesham Place one interests me as that wasn't far from D'Arcy Street - in fact I've just looked at my Godfrey Map (invaluable thing) and there is a Presbyterian church and a Chapel in Nesham Place and it's quite near the D'Arcy street area. Neither of them are here now and the map doesn't show the South Eastern part of Houghton so perhaps there were more! There is also a Primitive Methodist Chapel at Sunniside which is just West of Houghton which must be the forerunner of the more modern one that is there now. I do apologise for not looking at the map first - I only asked because I was pretty sure they weren't Catholic so assumed it was St Michaels! Best Wishes

John Alexander born 1835 Scotland [Father also called John] Janet Alexander [his wife ] nee Mckinnon born 1836 Scotland father s; name Angus . 1891 census they were living in Ellison St Hedworth and Jarrow ,Durham But i can not find them on the 1901 census so i am presuming they died between that time . If it helps in 1901 Ellison St was under West ward /Jarrow Grange Christ church . I am presuming that the nearist Churches were Presbyterian Church and St Keldas church as those Churches are where 2 of the children were married which came under South Shields reg. office on marraige cert . Maureen , I already had those from Ancestry myself but because there were so many and England death cert don,t give the spouse name there was nothing to check against if i asked the records office . I was just wondering if the Buriel records would tell me more so i could narrow it down a bit . Cath

I was wondering if you would be able to find a willaim Snaith born 1880 who married a Sarah Burgess.They lived in Dunston.Could you find the date of death for sarah.And poss parents and siblings for either?Many thanks

Susan Do you know where they were living on the 1901 Census and when they were married.. and if they were married by 1901 Death date will be up to you to find out.. cannot blanket search for over 50 years...I would need to have some kind of idea.. Hello Maureen You very kindly did a look up on Thomas and Emma Holts childrens baptisms for me. they were all baptised at Holy Innocents church in Tudhoe. do you know if that church has a graveyard. Have found out that Thomas died in June qtr 1900 and wondered if he could be buried there. thanks for your help regards Angela
