Hi Tracy,any chance you could help with this mystery?: On the 1881 census an Annie Ross is listed at 10 Greaves St,Chorlton on Medlock M/cr (RG11/3914 f87 p15) she is housekeeper to Arthur Whittaker and there is a 2 month old child called Lilie Ross,listed as Arthur's daughter.A Lily Whittaker (as a middle name) ROSS died in 1881 aged 0 which seems to prove she was Annie and Arthurs daughter.I can't find a birth ref for her either at the end of 1880/ beginning 1881.In 1883 Mary Ann Ross (Whose sister Ann I suppose Annie is) had a witness to her wedding called Annie Whittaker.FreeBMD/UKBMD weren't any help(I've not had chance to go to the record office yet) and there are no records of an Annie Ross/Whittaker or Arthur Whittaker in 1891 or 1901 and none of Arthur before 1881 either.Hope you can help!Andrea

OMG Jane! I went back to 1841 to look for a Henry in Suffolk and look what I found!! Henry Finch, 34, CABINET MAKER, born in county Francis Finch, (fem) 37, somthing I can't read, born in county Henry Finch, 14, born in county Living Bury St Edmunds! So, she must've been illegitimate, and told who her father was!

This has opened a can of worms - My grandmother was one of eight children and Willie Slack and Rachel Grubey were her parents. You have brought up Gladys and William who tally in with my family tree and the ages match. Didnt know about the Arthur or Rachel jnr but they could have died as children. The other children are Mary, Evelyn, Howard, Ron d.o.b 1921. and Alfred and my nan Mavis d.o.b.1924.

I'm puzzled too! Where is Ann in 1841 and 1851 please? Is she in Bury or London, married or widow or single?. Jane

Jane, I'm puzzled by this. He doesn't appear with Ann in either 1851 or 1841.

Arthur was born in 1829 in Suffolk, Ann junior was born in 1829 in Bury St Edmunds and Ann snr was born in about 1810 in Bury. I've no idea for Henry Finch.

Hello Tracy, Here's another one for the Winfield family tree! I just received the marriage certificate for my g-g-g-grandparents. Arthur Winfield and Ann Maria Burroughs, 16 September 1855 in Hammersmith. Both resident in Shepherd's Bush. Her father is down as Henry Finch, cabinet maker. I've never come across him before. Her mother was Ann Burroughs, both daughter and mother were born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I'd like to know where Henry Finch comes from and when (whether) he married Ann Burroughs. He doesn't crop up in the family home in 1861 onwards. Can you help at all please? Thanks again Jane
