Thanks for the offer, could you try to find John Guerin in the 1861 census. His parents were in Newcastle-u- Lyme but he wasn't with them. He would have been about 14. I found one who was 16 and on a ship, but said he was born in Canada which I know he wasn't. Sue

Thanks for that Tracy. Can you look at 1871 census to see if the William B. Blake born 1871 made it on 1871 census and whose father was William Blake ? I have seen him on free bmd but because his ages on marriage cert. and 1901 census seem to suggest born in 1875/1876. I can't find them on 1881 census don't know if you can. Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes and someone with more experience. Thanks for your help with this. I've only just really started this and not got very far. Boo Hoo.

Thanks for the offer of help. This is a brick wall I've been stuck on for ages! I am trying to find Charles Lane prior to 1901 census. On there he is living Whitworth, Lancs. 28 born Crookham, Somerset, (No such place exists). There is a Charles Lane born Downhead, 1872 but this is not him as he also appears on 1901 census. I have marriage cert for Charles (1896) stating his father (another Charles) is deceased but had been coachman (domestic). One of the witnesses was Eliza Locke and she and her parents were also living in Whitworth , Lancs. Her father was born Curry Rivel, Somerset and mother Allstock, Somerset. I think there must be a connection between Lane/Lock or Locke possibly by marriage and wonder if this is where to look next? Any help greatly appreciated. Sorry it's a bit long Bev

tracey On the Marriage Cert it says deceased for benjamin Ward. For those you found If Benjamin was born 1875 and catherine 1867 It would make him 17 when benjamin the son was born and 23 for sidney. He could be my Margeret Daisy's brother but I wonder if his age is wrong. Kathy

Sorry Jane, but I don't think I can solve that part. I don't think Thomas is Anns, but Mary might be, although she appears after Ann jnr suggesting she isn't hers either. I can't find the Thomas anywhere else, nor can I find Mary in 1851 but she may have married by then as she would be 22. There's this marriage... Hello Tracy Its me again!! You certainly helped last week in finding Henry Finch in Bury St Edmunds. Remember, it appears that he was the father of Ann Burroughs. You found him in the 1841. Could you please help me solve this one now! In 1841 Ann Burroughs snr is living with Robert Burroughs and three children in Bury, Mary, Thomas and Ann. Ann junior is my g-g-grandmother, but how do the other two fit in? Are they also illegitimate? The problem is that I'm pretty certain that Ann snr married a Burroughs because in a later London census she is living in the same house as a brother-in-law Robert Burroughs. If she married a Burroughs where is he in 1841? Hope this not too confusing. Are there Burroughs in Bury in later censuses, including the Thomas born in 1837ish?
