Hi Tracy. Could you help me please... Joseph White... My Grand father was a widower in 1913, he then married an 'Alice'. He was living in the Openshaw/ Ardwick area of Manchester. I am not sure just when he remarried but were married by the 1920's. All I know about 'Alice' is that she was born c 1879 as I have her death cert but no maiden name on it. There were no children of the second marriage. I tried for a marriage cert for a 'Alice Robinson and Joseph White' it was returned....fathers name incorrect. I know quite a bit about Alice, as I have family postcards, she had a sister Nelly......so if I find her maiden name I can do 1901 check now. Any help would be 'much appreciated' Gill |

Dorothy, I can't work it out. I've been through every single George Smith marriage in Leicester and can't match him with a Dorothy or a Polly. I still can't find them in 1891 either. |

Joanne, you should be able to check electoral roles in your local Library. I'd give them a ring and see what they say :) |

Margaret, without looking too hard, he only shows up in 1851. Should he appear later? I'll have another look if you think he should. |

Hi Tracy Thanks very much for checking my Holloway 1881 images and finding that marriage. Unfortunately according to birth certificates I have, Elizabeth’s maiden name was Bowers. She also states on the 1891 that she is still 28, was born in Stepney and her first name is Esther. Alfred’s birth is consistent. The first child Elizabeth has died to be replaced by another called Lizzie. I know that the family is the right one on 1891 census and this is the only family I can find on the 1881 census that matches. Anyway thanks very much for looking and my mystery will have to remain a mystery for now. Very Best Wishes Marion |
